I'm curious about that as well. I had to puncture the tubes just so the sterring column can fit.

Yes, I was able to get away with grinding the steering column down a bit. I’ll definitely ask. I think my steering shaft is fine but peace of mind wise, I’d love to replace the bolt I ground down if the long tubes fit with a bit more space.

I wonder if the long tubes play better with the steering shaft. My shorties are very close to a bolt that I had to grind down due to my body lift. To be clear, I ground down the steering shaft bolt, not my headers.



I’ll need to ask that too. Since I’m replacing anyway, maybe I can pay the difference...

I don’t think it’s an issue for Jason B. as he is only a vendor. I do wish he’d at least share his thoughts though, and whether he has communicated with DT on our behalf, or not.

Just got to read this whole post 2 days ago and as soon as I saw it I was in talks with management at Doug Thorley and Mike Johnson. I didn't want to post until we had it all figured out. I had a nice chat with Mike this morning and gave my thoughts on everything and he told me to wait to post until he responded to Marfy directly.

I do sell just about every manufacture's products. I've sold JBA headers, Gibson Headers, Doug Thorley, etc. One thing I always liked is after DT gets their headers back from Ceramic they submerge them in a tank underwater and then pressurize them with 50% more air than your engine will ever see, then check for air bubbles. Every other manufacture I know uses a led light in a dark room and checks for light shining through any pin holes, but this can be much easier to miss and a pinhole can turn into the size of a nickle in no time. To date I've never had to warranty any Doug Thorley headers and I've been selling them for over 10 years, and they've been in business for over 50. I'm happy to deal with them as they have never let me down yet. Thanks to Marfy for the post.

I'm also thankful as a vendor that a long standing company like DT is still willing to listen to their customers and their vendors (me) and interact with them one on one. This is super rare these days and as it was said, most today just think about the $$$ and are gone with the wind.

To all the guys interested in the full 304 stainless headers that I was going to contract out to have built I have some news for you folks. The cost to build would have been substantially more than what the DT long tubes are presently. Upon speaking with Mike at DT regarding this issue and the desire to have them made completely out of stainless, DT agreed to make a limited run of these out of full 304 stainless including air tubes, flanges, runners, collectors, everything.

We need 20 guys total and the cost I’m told will not be much more than the long tubes presently. Jason B will have the details.

I've been very involved in discussing this project with DT and trying to make it come to life. DT does listen to customers and listened to me as a sponsor on here about doing this test. I said I think it's good idea at least to try ONE RUN and got the green light, again, need 20. Very cool. These prices I also worked on and are very fair! I know what this stuff costs to make, and those that know also should be happy.

I’m in. Those prices for FULL 304 stainless are incredible. From what I understand, once this 20 set group buy is over DT will not offer this again.

Please ask DT the following questions:

1. If we have an 05-09 BUT we have an air injection bypass with block off plates, do we need to get the 05-09 version with air tubes or can we forgo the air tubes altogether? Are the flanges on the 03-04 version big enough to cover the air holes in the head leading to the air tubes?

2. I presume that includes ceramic coating. Can we leave the headers bare 304 stainless and forgo the ceramic coating? If yes, great! If no, can DT do an appropriate 2000 degree grey ceramic coat instead of the 1100 degree chromex that fails in a year?

Im glad that DT is making this right. I had my headers installed last month with a new complete exhaust front to back. I would like to hear from someone who had these installed for 2 years and has no rust appearing yet. If they exist. You can PM me. My magnet confirms that the air tubes are not stainless steel. I had to check it myself. It is disappointing too since I work in the metals industry and deal with stainless steel all the time. I would have never thought to check these since it said they were stainless but thats in the past now and many dollars later. They look cool though

I'm trying to decide which headers I want, the shorty headers or the long tube headers.

I have a question.

My question is can you explain the difference between the construction of the shorty headers compared to the long tube headers so I can understand why the cost difference for the full stainless steel for the shorty headers cost around twice as much more over the old design than it does for the long tube headers...i.e. 03-04 full stainless headers in this group buy are around $69 more for the shorty headers over the old design compared to the long tube headers which cost $35 more than the old design, the difference is around $35, from what I understand it would only be the flanges being upgraded to stainless steel from the high carbon steel, which I would think would be the same on the shorty headers as it would be on the long tube headers, so on the shorty headers what else on them is being upgraded to stainless steel that is causing the price difference to be twice as much?

This question also applies to the 05-09 headers as well although the difference is a little more than twice the price.
