UPdate on my stolen 07

[2003-4x4runner]

Just wanted to give all who helped me over the years an update on my 4Runner that was stolen over 2 months ago. It hasn't been recovered and my insurance is issuing me a check for just under 15k. Super disappointed because I had almost 10k into my truck. (Lift, new tires, sound system, technology, etc.) It wasn't paid off but I'll have about 3k after I pay it off. I feel like everyone silver 4Runner I see might be mine and it kills me a little inside. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice in the past. I'll get another 4Runner one day.

Also I would like to ask anyone who has ever dealt with for itinsurance and stolen cars... I supplied all my receipts of all the things I had done to my truck. My suspension including labor came out to something around $1900 and they gave me like $150 for it... is this a normal margin or should I demand more? Can I even do that? Is it worth fighting over? At 15k I'm losing about 8,000ish. I had just put a new engine in it and I know they won't pay for the engine and all that. I just need some input from someone who's done this before.

Bummer Bro!, Sorry to hear your truck got stolen. Do you know how they took your truck? I thought the 4th Gen's had a chip in the key and you couldn't start it without it.

Great question about the theft. I've had no end of expense and aggravation with the anti-theft key / start systems on Acuras and GM's. Not the Toyota so far.

If they are this difficult for the owner with the correct keys to keep in order how in the world does a thief do it?

Clearly it is no problem for the thief, maybe they all use flatbed trucks with a winch?

Key was left in it. I don't live in a very big city and never figured it could happen.

Wow...not only did you spend 10k on a rig that you didn't own outright, you were leaving the keys in the thing, at least you could have upped the coverage for your modifications..although those adjustments don't work out great for DIYers it would still give some room to negotiate
