UPdate on my stolen 07

Just wanted to give all who helped me over the years an update on my 4Runner that was stolen over 2 months ago. It hasn't been recovered and my insurance is issuing me a check for just under 15k. Super disappointed because I had almost 10k into my truck. (Lift, new tires, sound system, technology, etc.) It wasn't paid off but I'll have about 3k after I pay it off. I feel like everyone silver 4Runner I see might be mine and it kills me a little inside. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice in the past. I'll get another 4Runner one day.

Also I would like to ask anyone who has ever dealt with for itinsurance and stolen cars... I supplied all my receipts of all the things I had done to my truck. My suspension including labor came out to something around $1900 and they gave me like $150 for it... is this a normal margin or should I demand more? Can I even do that? Is it worth fighting over? At 15k I'm losing about 8,000ish. I had just put a new engine in it and I know they won't pay for the engine and all that. I just need some input from someone who's done this before.

why not fight for it. you have nothing to lose. how old were the parts. if they were new, you do have a case to ask for more. keep pushing till they out right tell you no. then go again till they get frustrated.
again you have nothing to lose...

you have recipes. I am sure someone more experienced with dealing with insurance will come in and give you more detailed resolution or plan of attack.

This sucks...what a horrid situation. Good luck man. You can always threaten to take your business elsewhere, but they may not bat an eye.

I'm not an insurance expert, but here's how I expect it works.

The insurance company insured your vehicle for the blue book value ($15K), and what's important in your case, is they charged you premiums based on that value. If your truck was really worth 5-10 thousand more than blue book because of your mods, and you wanted it insured as such, they would have likely raised your premiums accordingly if they would have done it at all.

Because you paid premiums based on a value of $15K, I'm not sure you can expect any more from them for your loss.

Unfortunately, they probably won't care... most aftermarket modifications aren't covered by regular insurance policies.

I was told by a friend of mine that if I wanted the mods on my Subaru to be covered i would have to take the information to the insurance company and have it all included and of course raise the price of the premium. He said that if something happens to it now it won't be covered, and thats if the insurance company even allows you to have aftermarket mods covered.

One thing people have to learn:

You don't take the first offer that the insurance company gives you. They come in low and hope you take the money and run. I always make a case and get more money.

So far in my situation, it hasn't been that way. They look at my surrounding area and give me the going rate for an 07 with same mileage. The thing that I do not understand is the mods. He told me if I had receipts it would add to the value of the vehicle. Now I knew I wouldn't get dollar for dollar sure. But on my $1900 suspension, they give me an extra $150? That don't seem right. And by the way all these parts were about 3 months old. They gave me $100 for my tires which I had the receipt for $1100. Also 3 months old. Everything was basically brand new. I called him back and told him to hold up on the process. I was gonna talk to a lawyer. His tone changed immediately. He told me I could have it appraised by my own choosing if wanted. Maybe I'll try that.

About 6 months old on paper, truck sat in the driveway for 3 months while I did an engine swap though. Yeah. I just put a brand new(50k miles) engine in it like a month before it was stolen.

If you don't mind could you reach out to your friend and ask what I should do? I mean, do i just tell him to give me more? or just say no? I'm sure it doesn't look good that they have a claim case open for very long.

Find an equivalent stock 2007 in your area and print out a page showing the retail and add receipts for your recent mods. That's what you should receive.

How does the company handle your transportation in the mean time? Do they give you a rental for a certain number of days or are you on your own?

If you want everything covered you need to look into a Stated Value policy and/or sit down with an agent with your receipts and verify the value. Probably have to get an appraisal as well.

OP, yeah this doesn't help you.

Definitely worth it to negotiate for more. I had a bike that got totaled and their first offer was like $3600. I tore apart the adjusters observations and their "software's" comparables and found the highest priced comps on the market I could. They recalculated a couple times (due to "oh sorry I missed that") trying to give me the least and they got it up to $4800. Complained that I was still bikeless with a mangled piece of trash sitting my garage for over 3 months and told them my bottom line was $5200. They had to talk to a manager blah blah like talking to the cable company, and just this once they would do it because they are nice people. Sure. They are just doing their jobs to pay out the least but that doesn't mean you have to agree, as you can see I got an increase of over 40% just by staying calm and presenting them with facts on how they were not paying out enough for me to replace it with the same exact thing. Once you sign something though there's no going back.

I haven't signed anything. I was hoping for at LEAST 16K

Asked my insurance agency about all the extras on my truck. They said if you can prove it was on there it will be covered under the comprehensive. Fight it.

you just have to negotiate and state your case. receipts, documentation, comps, etc etc. always act like its not enough. its called bargaining...:spy:

I mean, it was my baby! I know it's not special to anyone but me. How much should I be looking for? It was an 07. Leather seats, seat warmers, 4x4, sport, brand new cooper stt pros 33", the toytec bilstein 3" lift(roughly $1900) light racing ucas. Weather tech floor mats, pioneer 5700bhs($350) 1500 watt alpine 12" and hifonics 1200 amp. Bunch of tools in the back, jumper cables, tow ropes, hids, mods(fog light/high beam mod). Engine swap(50k on new engine).

After reading my own post, I ****ing hate whoever stole my truck. I made it mine and someone just takes that away from me.

Was on the phone with Geico last week adjusting my policy. Don't know who your company is, but I can cover ALL of my modifications --wheels, tires, stereo, etc--- EXCEPT suspension work. They have a "Customizations" section to the policy -- just throwing numbers around, I asked them about 3K or so in electronics and it added like 2 bucks.... but it was a no-go for any lifts.
