I figured i'd post these since i've recently been changing my 4runner around a bit. Some of you will appreciate my radar detector mounting design, some will not. I figured I would post them because i'm sure like me, some of you are trying to think of some ideas. Also, I decided to debadge and remove my running boards. Anyways, enjoy.

whether it looks like it or not, that wire isn't going anywhere!

I am using the concealed display so that when driving down the highway people will not as easily be able to tell i'm using a radar detector. Also, at night, it's impossible to see the radar detector with the tint! btw, that compartment still closes if you were curious.

Somehow all these sudden post of going runningboards free, just doesn't appeal to me, but then, that's just me. I'd rather keep em on for paint protection, unless you've got sliders, then that's a whole different issue. It just looks too "naked" with nothing there :rolleye2:. Debadging is always a clean n simple solution for cosmetic purposes.

Valentine 1 probably makes the best RD's. Very Nice!

Hey man,

Good to see you on the forums again. How's college treating you?

Maybe Shawn will see this thread and comment on the radar detector :p ;):

Living in VA, that is pretty risky, even having it up high.

July- College has been going well! I have been reading the forums I just haven't had anything to post.

Also, I realize it's risky having it in VA and I don't really use it much in VA. I am in Ohio 10/12 months of the year where it is legal and I work in rockville MD over the summer where it is also legal.

I live in New Mexico. I got a cheap Cobra 9700 series RD, and my wife freaked out everytime a cop passed us. She felt like every cop was going to see it and spitefully try and bust us or something
Really, if you don't drive in VA or DC, there is no reason to conceal it. Flaunt it.

I bought the concealed display mostly because while driving down the highway, I prefer the people I am driving next to to not realize I have it. I am not really concerned about police seeing it in states it is legal in. People will tend to follow you and mooch (sp?) off of your radar detector while driving on long interstates.

NO BOARDS

Its better with no boards IMO.

So how does one de-badge? Is there a special product and procedure or do you just go put there and yank them off???

Heat it up, or have it sit in the sun a while. Take some floss, and glide it across the adhesive. It should come up quite easily. You may have to clean up some glue.

irwinSR5, i'm not the biggest fan of where you put the concealed display. imo, its kindof a dangerous place to put it.

but nice install!
