As I was driving home, my 4Runner suddenly started making a noise. It's not extremely loud, but loud enough to be heard while inside the car with the radio at a reasonable level.
To me, it sounds like an electronic hum. Like when you put stress on an electric motor, and it starts to moan.
The noise is faint when I start the car and it's in park. When I shift into drive, the noise gets noticeably louder.
There isn't really a change in the tone when I speed up or slow down. When I come to a stop, the noise will get a little louder though.
Someone said it could be the alternator going bad, but it's been doing this for a month now and I have no charging problems.
I have an opinion on what i think it is, but I want to get someone's opinion based on the symptoms without me influencing them.
