Well guys, I'm gonna get me an aftermarket HU in my 06 4Runner. I don't have the JBL stamped anywhere on the doors or such. I'm thinking about getting that an amp and some subs. What do you guys have or would recommend? I would like to put this in the back, don't wanna take up too much room in the back, though.

I do have a couple of headunits picked out. Kenwood DDX371 DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com
Kenwood Excelon DDX491HD DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

JVC Arsenal KW-V200BT DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Amps I have no clue.
I do have an one 10" Memphis Mojo, its pretty big that use to be in my car, I the bass is awesome on that, but don't wanna go that big.

Just need some suggestions or what have people done?
Thanks!

All of those are good head units if you don't need navi. I have JVC/KW DVD Navi and have been happy with it for 3 years. As far as the sub, if 10 is too big, you should look into either a JL stealth enclosure, or find a stock 8" JBL enclosure and throw an 8" sub in there. That's what I did, and this 4Runner didn't have the JBL. I added it after the fact.

Here's some details on what I did

I do have this and I think it's big.

I was looking at doing an upgrade earlier this year. Backed off when I got the proposals (too much $$$). For a head unit, I was going to go with an Alpine ILX-007. It's an Apple CarPlay unit.

How do you like your setup, loudness wise? I looked on your thread, thats a lot of work. I would have no idea, what I'd be doing on that.

I don't need Nav, I use my iPhone for that. Plus, I'm looking for a HU that offers more support from an Apple phone then an Android. Seems like Kenwood offers that. I just don't like that knob, but I can get use to it. Plus, I want the colors to be orange.

I say keep that sub setup and use it, I would do the 491, Looks like a better unit. Also you can never have enough bass.

use what u still have, i dont know the specs of that subs or power requirements. im about to complete my rockford fosgate power series amp collection, as soon as i can get a t1000 i will be all set.

I had it installed back in my car over 3 years ago, I can't remember for sure what it was. Thats why I was leaning to get something else.

What are trying to accomplish with your system? Are you planning upgrade your speakers too?

Headunits, I would suggest the pioneer avh-x2700bs. To me, is't the best bang for your buck DD headunit on the market right now. Good tuning ability and a lot of features. You can find one on ebay for about $250, or you can just buy mine ;). I want to upgrade to the 5700bhs, the full screen version.

With that sub and amp, just keep it and use it, its a good sub. That thing can handle 500 watt rms. Maybe find the T/S parameter and have a good box builder, around your area, build a custom box for it. That thing will get pretty loud and sound good in the right box.

Just to let you know. The rear of our 4runners are rattle traps. Trust me I know... I'm in the process of deadening the whole car and trying to get rid of all the rattles.

Edit: from the looks of it, that box looks to big for that sub. you can go sealed for simplicity. Just to let you know, going ported doesn't mean it has to be huge.

i dont know much about your sub and amp specs, got any model numbers on the amp, and also the sub itself? dual 2 or 4 ohm or single 2 or 4 ohm?

Yeah I'm gonna upgrade my speakers but it'll be after I get my HU picked and subs first. I would still use this setup, but I don't have the amp anymore. It was in my truck after my old amp messed up and I had to replace it, sold it over a month ago.

I was gonna get the Pioneer 2700, but its sold out. So, I'm gonna get the Pioneer 3700 or the Kenwood 492. The 5700 would be nasty.

I would be saving a lot of money, if I stayed with the same setup. sub/sub-box. If not, what should I get? I would like to have something powerful, but not too expensive or too big to take up a lot of room.

If you want a smaller sub, Id look at a JL W7 or W6. Had a 10" W7 that I loved. Wanted more bass so stepped it up to a Sundown Audio X12. But thats probably bigger than you want to go.

Those are pretty expensive, I don't wanna spend that much, let alone on just on subs. Sundown Audio is real good from what I hear.

There are so many options that it would be beneficial to provide some more information as far as what you're looking for.

Also, what is your budget?

^what he said. Whats your budget, and we can further help your situation. A lot of unknown companies out there, that put out quality products now a days. Are you opposed to buying used?

Just to let you know since your gonna spend money on a system. Account some of your budget into sound treatment to your ride. No point of spending all the money on good equipment just so it can still sound like ass.

Since, I'm getting the Pioneer Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

I least want a nice setup, nothing too big and/or nothing too expensive. Nothing higher then a 12" subs, can be duals though.
Those two combined about $600.

My friend is his selling his Kicker L7 15" and his ZX1000.1 amp, for $450 good deal?

I don't mind buying used as long its in real good shape and not too old.
