Upgrade winch wiring question

I have a 9500 tigershark with my solinoid under the hood (7ft run of wires
I originally used 4 gauge wire. I realize it's not enough and I'm loosing volts due to length of run and wire gauge. I'm going to upgrade to 2/0 welding cable.

My question is is it ok just to upgrade the 2 wires going to battery? Or do I have to upgrade all 5 wires (winch/solidnoid/battery). Ideally I would replace all but at $5/ft for the welding cable if just upgrading the wires connected to the battery works that's what I'll do for now.

Look at the specs and instructions for your winch. What do they say about max load current draw and suggested circuit protection and install. Basically everything in a circuit will all feel the same load. You can then calculate the proper wire gauge to deal with that draw plus a little extra to handle initial surge / startup load. Then you can see if the vehicle can provide enough power to do that.

Here's the specs. I have approx 7ft between winch and solinoid. I'm going to assume I should just upgrade it all to 2/0?

how far is the control box from the battery?
 
The longer run is all that should need upgrading. A 4 gauge short run from the solenoid to the winch motor should be fine, but it depends on the quality....

The wiring for the solenoid should have come with the winch and should be adequate.... Don't forget about your ground.
 
I have the same winch with no issues. I did get new leads made for the solenoid to motor since I mounted it on top of bumper.

I agree with wfo9. Good quality stranded copper wire is a must. It looks to me like you are borderline as far as a stock alternator / battery / charging system is concerned. That's why some members are installing larger alternators and dual battery systems. There are several threads on each. Don't have a lot of extra wire - it will add resistance to the circuit. I would leave enough at each end to allow you to reterminate each end twice.
