Upgrading Exhaust OR Intake

Starting to get some extra cash and starting to be able to afford my next upgrade. Now that I'm done with my sound system. I think it's time to go for the car performance / looks.

I'm thinking about getting a new intake to improve gas mileage/performance. IF not, I'm thinking about getting a new exhaust for that mean truck sound.

What do you guys think? How much will either one of those cost installed at a shop?

I know my friend JUST installed the exhaust and not the whole thing, what would the whole thing cost? And what would just the tip cost?

Well I did my own intake for about $45 in parts and 30 min in time. I got a CAT back exaust for $250 installed at the local exaust shop. So I hope this helps.
 
do the intake silencer removal and the deckplate mod and it will sound mean

both would cost you 1/4th or 1/5th of an intake.

I 2nd the deckplate mod and the air silencer removal. Very easy job. Match it up with the TRUE FLOW air filter and you got yourself a much more responsive 3.4L. Check it out.
 
Just finished the deckplate mod myself tonight. Next weekend I'll be hunting for some PVC to remove the intake silencer.

easy mods to do, and less than $20 in parts.
 
Yup, looks like thats too complicated to me. Don't really want to make cuts lol.

I think I'll just get a new intake. And do that..

What should come first, intake or the exhaust lol
 
deckplate plus ISR yeilds more then the k&n fipk intake.. one reason is that the fipk is getting more hot air over the heatsheild then the deckplate.

Yah but I'm not too capable of doing the deckplate mod. So yah. I've decided I'm going to wait 1 paycheck or 2 paychecks before I get iether one of them just so I save some money for gas and stuff.
 
the hardest part I think is making the circle for the deckplate. However, you can get a circle maker from any local hardware shop, or even better a harbour freight tools center, and itll set you back about 5 bucks, but well worth it.

I am going mine tommorow!

Or use your printer and print out a perfect cirlcle template on card stock paper and trace around that.

that's how I did mine. Hell, maybe I should do a writeup on it, since I photo-documented pretty much all there is to it... as if there isn't enough write-ups as it is.. :D


and... as far as price goes...

11.95 for a deckplate and 5.00 for some sealer is a hell of a lot cheaper than a FIPK...
 
C'mon,I guess you're made of money when you'll throw $200 at a part that $12 and a little effort or even a friend's effort will save you.
even if you just cut a hole in the box and never plan on having a reason to close it is free horsepower.
 
yeah I was skeptical and I even wanted to buy a new intake sys but after doing this I have come to the conclusion that even the 260 you would pay on a volant is a waste.. only thing good about those is you get rid of the intake silencer with the mandrel bent pipe.

buy the airaid jr kit pipe for the isr mod and its sooooo easy to do. its 100 bucks but it still saves you half the money.

deckplate mod is a lot easier then you think. you can buy a ID 4.25 inch hole saw to put on your drill and make the hole in seconds. you just need to sand down and blow the rest of the shavings out before reinstalling.. no need to put the deckplate in if you dont want but I usually do when off roading.

its a nice system... its a sealed system so you dont have just a stupid little firewall that doesnt do much to keep hot air out like the fipk uses.
 
If I can get like a drill thing that will work on my drill. I think I can manage to do that. I'll look into it, maybe in a few weeks when I'm all done with summer football.
 
Do the Deckplate mod....very very easy, then just change out the muffler.

I got a new 18" Magnaflow from a vendor on Ebay for $52 then spent $35 getting it installed.

Pluse I already had the intake mod done...sounds mean now and faster throttle response. :)

Don't spend a fortune for something you can do for less than $150 on your own.
 
I'm thinking about doing the deckplate mod in the near future. Maybe after we have our break from football, and after I get back from my vacation.

What do I use to cut the hole?
 
I just used a Dremel with a small cutting disc and it worked fine instead of spending the money for one special cutting bit for your drill since that ruins the budget aspect of the deckplate.
