Upgrading tires, need help deciding which

If you liked the generals then just stick with them. They are a quality tire and Just plain work. At the price it's hard to go wrong.

While I have owned many BFG's over the years, I never felt they were as good as their online reputation.

Wait, it snows in Florida?

Florida is home but I've been living in Northern Japan for 8 years. We get over 220" of snow a year.

In FL I just need tires that do good in the sand and shopping mall parking lots.

I certainly don't have that much money for a truck. I leave here in 3 years and before I do, I'm finding a 25 year old vehicle to bring back with me. Not sure what yet but it had to have a production date of June 1993 or earlier.

I read the rerelease fj70s were selling for 25k new. What are they selling for used? I am guessing you could sell it at a premium if it was imported here, but no idea what it would cost to deal with importing.. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I am also in PDX. I had BFG AT2s on my Tundra and they suck in rain, simply horrible. I like the Cooper AT3s, great value and performance, but I ultimately went with the Grabbet AT2s because they are severe snow rated, which allows me to avoid putting on chains when driving through various passes in Oregon winters. They do pretty well in rain, which baffles me a bit as they look so similar to the BFGs, I am guessing they have a softer rubber for better grip. TireBuyer had some really good pricing when I bought and they ship for free to a local installer. Add the tires to your cart, and fill out all of your info but do not complete the order. A few hours later they will email you a 7% off coupon. Also, Discount offered to match tirebuyers pricing. I ended up using tirebuyer and my tires arrived at my installer the next day. Let us know what you end up with.

FWIW, I got Grabber ats2 in 265/70r17s for $530 installed.

It's funny, the more I thought about it the more I questioned the wet abilities of the BFG and I actually ordered a tire not on my original list but one that I wanted a couple years ago.. Cooper ST MAXX in the 285/70/17. Should be here next week and Ill have them put on! Discount tire, $1105 installed after rebate

I had to have severe snow rated tires (don't want to deal with chains in the passes or get a ticket), so the Coopers went off my list. FWIW, even though the General rebate expired, if you get Discount to match TireBuyer (or order from TireBuyer), you can get the General AT2s in that size for $810. I called Discount when I was getting mine and they said they'd match the installed price no problem (tigard location)

If you are interested, add the items into your tirebuyer cart and fill out all of your shipping info and set up an account, but do not finalize your order.

A short while later they will email you and say you left an order in your cart and give you a 7% off coupon.

4 tires are $827.96. Subtract 7% or about $58 which takes you to $770. There is another $20 off right now if you have the tires shipped to a local installer (free shipping this way). Firestone in PDX will install all 4 for $68.

Grand total of $810 and no rebate to deal with. $300 dollar difference seems like a lot between the Generals and Coopers.
