Upgrading wheel cylinders?

Does anybody know if different wheel cylinders, like tundras, will work on our 4Runners? My buddy upgraded his on his F-350 by using dually wheel cylinders on his SRW, which has me wondering of I can do the same type of upgrade.

I wasn't aware that the OEM one was lacking in some way. What would be the benefit to "upgrade" it?

Better braking. Such as why you'd upgrade to tundra calipers and rotors... I know it's not toyota, but when my buddy did the ones on his F350, the dually wheel cylinders were almost twice as big and bolted right in. And that thing stops like a miata now lol

Well we dont have dually toyotas to swap over. I think it may be possible, just not much of an upgrade. Drum brakes are trash all around. If upgrading find a way to go disc in the back.

For my money, I'd find a elocker 4runner axle and change the brakes over to disc before swapping the whole thing over. Dunno the feasibility of that idea, but it sounds great in my head.

On the other hand, if you find a way to swap in a dually, be sure to post pics. [emoji12]

wtf I never said anything about putting a dually axle in haha just to swap in wheel cylinders of a larger model, if possible. And I already have an e-locker. I'll just go chat with the guys at the local auto parts store and have em mic' different wheel cylinders. I'll update if anything spectacular is unveiled. Thanks guys!

You could also consider a smaller master cylinder, for developing greater line pressure. It would do the same thing as changing the wheel cylinders to a larger bore. Don't forget to consider brake bias. You do NOT want the rears to lock up before the fronts; that will cause ABS issues and general not-good-ness. Make sure to test everything before it rains...that could be fun. A proportioning valve is a must, should you choose to go with this upgrade. If you don't other things like accelerated brake parts wear will happen and that's not cool either. I had a friend who did this sorta upgrade. His words "Everything worked great at low pressures...until I had to slam on the brakes. That's when I knew I should have done more homework..."
Also, with bigger wheel cylinders comes greater pedal travel because of more fluid transfer. I can't imagine you finding a brake cylinder with enough of a difference to make the difference noticeable, but just in case you do...
