Is your uphill assist working?

When you release the brakes on the uphill incline, it applies the brake unti you press on the gas pedal. But is it suppose to release the brakes after x seconds even if you dont step on the gas pedal?

Any way, how does your uphill assist work?

just want ot check mine is working as it should.

UPhill assist?
really?

that doesnt make any sense.

It is supposed to stop you car from rolling back on hills when the brakes are released.

On really steep hills in SF here the truck starts beeping as I think it starts to effect the traction control.

I normally just apply a tiny amount of gas before I release the brake on the steep stuff. Easier on the mind, rather than having the car roll back 10 inches then have all sorts of beeps and stuttering going off.

Live in the mountains of CO here and never seen or heard about (uphill assist)

I am familiar with the (DAC or Down Hill Control Assist?)

I guess SF is really got the hills! :bigok:

From Page 177-178 of my owner's manual.

Hill- start assist control system

The hill- start assist control system assists you in starting to move up a steep or slippery hill. When you start to move up the hill slope, the system helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward in the interval while you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal.

CAUTION

• Do not rely excessively on the hill- start assist control system. The vehicle may not be able to start smoothly on road surfaces or off- road surfaces such as extremely steep slopes or icy roads, on which sliding can occur very easily.

• Do not use the hill- start assist control system to stop the vehicle. This system is not designed as a function for stopping the vehicle on a uphill slope.

The hill- start assist control system will operate for 5 seconds maximally when all of the following conditions apply.

• 5- speed automatic transmission— When the transmission is in any of positions “D”, “4”, “3”, “2” or “L”

• 4- speed automatic transmission— When the transmission is in any of positions “D”, “3”, “2” or “L”

• When the brake pedal is not de- pressed

The system is designed to operate when the vehicle is starting on an uphill slope; therefore, if the transmission is in “P” or “N” it will not operate. It will not operate either if the vehicle starts to move in reverse on a slope with the transmission in the “R”.

When the hill-start assist control is operating, the slip indicator light flashes and an alarm sounds intermittently. At the same time, the stop lamps and high mounted stoplight are lit.

The slip indicator light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to “ON”. If the indicator light does not come on when the ignition is turned on, contact your Toyota dealer.

Keep in mind the following when driving.

• The hill- start assist control system operates for 5 seconds maximally. If both the brake and accelerator pedals remain undepressed for longer than 5 seconds, the buzzer will sound at more frequent intervals and the system will gradually stop operating.

• The hill- start assist control system is not designed as a function for stopping the vehicle on a uphill slope. When stopping the vehicle, be sure to depress the brake pedal.

If the system is used frequently, the brake actuator temperature may become too high and a buzzer will sound intermittently.

In this case, a buzzer will sound intermittently. When the temperature of the brake actuator goes down, the system will begin to operate again. Until it restarts, the traction control system (two- wheel drive models), active traction control system (four- wheel drive models) and downhill assist control system will not operate; however, the conventional brake can be operated.

Mine used to be really sensitive, like would kick in every time i let off the brake on even the slightest hill. The clicking sound you hear is the brake actuator kicking in. Its not a bad noise. The one thing i did notice however is that when i took my car into the dealer when they threw the new engine in under warranty (long story) it was less sensitive and now works like it probably is meant to work. Now if i am on a hill it will roll back about a half foot and when it kicks in it is really smooth and completely stops the car, then slowly releases it as it beeps. Does anyone know if it is adjustable?? Because it is definitely a little different now than it was before, seems like it works better and smoother.

Mine will stop the car, but it sounds like all hell is breaking loose while it's working.

Mine did that hell break loose noise for the first time on an incline. Normally it would just hold it in place but it would hold it there longer than 5 seconds, so I dont know if it is holding it by by the engine trying to move the car forward or if it is the hill assist working.

Anyway, yesterday is did a clanging noise.

I'm in Colorado too and mine appears to work as designed. I consider it more of a warning that I'm rolling backward than anything more. Coincidentally I was off-road today and it was the first time I let it beep w/o doing anything and it started beeping faster and faster. In general, I could do without this as much as the DAC.
