Has anyone replaced their upper and lower ball joints while the control arm is still on the vehicle? I'm just curious if this is possible before digging into it. I'm pretty positive the lower one could be done, but unsure about the upper. Will be renting the larger ball joint set from AdvanceAutoParts that individuals have recommended since it includes the correct adapters for the 4Runner.

I did the lower. LCAs are damned expensive and you only want OEM ones.
I figured if it didn’t work I would only be out the few bucks for the BJ, not hundreds for the LCA.
I did it probably a year ago with newer style crappy moog ball joints.
Kept them greased. No problems so far. There were threads for upper and lower. Lower was the harder to find of the two.
I actually may have quoted the one I followed. I’ll look.

I have a year and a half on that ball joint. And 2 salty winters. They work pretty well.
