We are very excited to report that all those baby Godzillas have grown up and have shipped out to their new homes!!

We shipped the last two URD/Whipple 4Runner supercharger kits today!! The entire batch has shipped.

We have started production of the next batch and will start accepting orders very soon, likely next week so get ready!

Anyone heard any information on expected fuel mileage once we complete this install? Obviously it's leadfoot dependent, but it would be nice to have some idea.

URD Supercharger installed

I finished the install of my supercharger last Friday. The install went mostly well. The install manual is easy to follow. I did have an issue with the UCON, but URD took care of it very quickly. I'm very happy with the quick communication and help I received from Gadget at URD.

A few quick comments on the install.
1. I used the Schley crank holder to remove and install the crank bolt. It made the job very easy and saved a lot of money compared to the Toyota tool. The only problem was the bolts that came with the tool were not long enough to go through the new overlay pulley and existing pulley combined. I had to buy 1" longer bolts.
2. There is a set of steel coolant lines that run to the oil cooler. They have to be removed to make room for the added pulley system. The manual states and I highly recommend that if you don't ever expect to put them back on (if you decide to remove the supercharger), then cut them up to get them off. I decided to keep them intact. Since I was not familiar with removing them, it added about 2 hours to my install time.
3. Make sure you drill the hole for the hose that runs to the intercooler water pump before installing the pump.
4. I installed the fuel pump a week prior to starting the supercharger install. I drove it all week just to be sure there was no issue with it. I did drop and fully remove the tank from the truck to do the install. The ring holding the tank/pump assembly in is a pain in the ass to remove if you don't have the tool made for it. I carefully hammered it loose using a very large screwdriver and rubber mallet. It seemed to work well but took some time. I also read you can use a large strap clamp, but I couldn't find one locally and heard that they don't always work. Overall, for the first time doing a pump install, it took me about 4 hours working slowly.

I have put around 150 miles on it. So far, I am very happy with it. Unfortunately its been mid 90's and high humidity here in NY for the past 6 days, so I have not been pushing it too much. The power increase is noticeable through the entire RPM range, of course less at lower RPM. I did do a couple 0-60 passes on it today. It did 6.1 and 6.2 seconds. I imagine it will do slightly better once the UCON computer is fully trained. I didn't do a pre-install 0-60 test, but there are some videos on youtube showing times between 7.5 and 10.6 seconds for stock to slightly modded 4runners.

I'm currently running on 91 octane gas. The closest 93 octane is around 10 miles out of my way, but I plan on trying it on my next fill up. I have not noticed any issue with the 91.

Gas mileage at this point is hard to tell, but it seems to be about a 1.5 mpg loss. I was at 18.9 average and am currently showing 17.4. I do most of my driving on 55mph roads. Very little city driving. Lot's of hilly roads. I'll give an update on this when I have gone through a few tanks of gas.

That's about it for now. If you have any questions, fire away.

Any updates from those who bought the URD? Saw a Wrangler today with a Whipple on it and reminded me of how much I want one of these.

Why did you go with the URD opposed to the Magnuson?
The whipple will have a lot more power and tuning potential over the Magnusson TVS. The downside is more modifications and potential for reliability issues. The Mag is the SC Toyota was planning to release and warranty, before they lost the last bit of their enthusiast spirit.

Will probably get a Whipple (URD) for the Wife's 2014 TEP (moving to a new house with a TON more garage room right now though)... Want a Whipple based URD for my 2007 FJ too but they don't offer it. I'll need the intake plenum replaced anyway so the current offering for the older FJ's is not attractive to me. May just sell it and get a JLUR.

MUCH more interested in the URD offerings than the Magnuson if not for engine management alone. There were tuning issues with the old "TRD" flashes and zero flexibility. One of the most popular threads about the Magnuson offering does not instill confidence in a final tuning solution yet. Then again, Magnuson would be a lot more attractive if it were more inline with the old TRD pricing. However, now it is much closer to the URD in cost with the URD's vastly more flexible tuning possibilities. That makes it at least currently more of a obvious choice between the two.

Cost. Either way this is a lot of money to spend on a modification.
Magnuson $5500
URD/Whipple $6500

Availability.
Magnuson 4-6 months or more, though improving
URD/Whipple ~1 month

Install - Magnuson requires less because they don't require removing fuel tank skid, dropping fuel tank, replacing fuel pump, and replacing fuel injectors like the URD/Whipple kit.

Power, numbers were hard to find, but the winner here is obviously the URD/Whipple.

Design
Magnuson, Roots style
URD/Whipple, Twin screw
Initially I was also on the fence, until I read this article:
Roots VS Twin Screw Superchargers
I'm a nerdy math and science kind of guy who loves to know how things work, so the engineer part of me saw that and basically decided on the URD/Whipple then.

Information Available: While there's more than a few helpful threads on the Magnuson, there was no information on the URD/Whipple. The info that was available for the Magnuson was a mixed bag. I'm sure a lot of that was from people getting yanked around, it's a TRD Kit then it's not, and taking forever to get one.
I've dealt with Steve/Gadget at URD for the exhaust, and hit him with an arsenal of questions about the URD/Whipple before ordering. Steve/Gadget had an answer for every question, even my idiot ones (I do live up to my name occasionally). He was able to explain everything in a way that I could understand if I had to do it, even if I wasn't going to be able to tackle the install myself. Having that level of support was also appealing.
I opted for a professional install anyway because I'm doing 6-day weeks that include 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shift in the same week and the 4Runner is my only vehicle.

I can't lie, the more powerful URD/Whipple always had appeal, but the design had a major influence after reading the above article. I'd also rather deal with URD over Magnuson, given my experiences and other SC threads.
So that's where all my overtime money went!

As for how things are going now that I've had a week or so with the URD/Whipple SC installed. Things are going horribly! I've had 3 speeding tickets, 1 noise complaint, and a wreckless driving charge for leaving some of my AT tires in the pavement.... Kidding! Actually I've been very happy with the supercharger. My truck now lives below 3000rpm and still has plenty of power there. The real test will come when running down to TN in early October, although I probably won't be dragging the boat.
City driving I can see the fuel economy suffer, but on the highway it is certainly improved. I'm still working through my first full tank, so expect real numbers later on.

Dyno run information

May just sell it and get a JLUR.
LOL.... :ban:

Magnuson S/C installed!

Just completed the installation of the Magnuson Supercharger! It's awesome! Dustin at Magnuson was amazing with support and Dan was equally helpful! I'd highly recommend to all fellow 4runner owners who constantly think about what their truck needs.

These Magnuson and URD supercharger installs look clean and OEM. It's a shame Toyota punted on offering the Magnuson as a TRD upgrade option.

Has anyone tried and passed the emissions test in Colorado? I really want the urd supercharger, but there is no way I'm going to uninstall it every two years for an emissions test.

what makes you think it won't pass?

i had a supercharger on my M3 and it would pass inspection.

I dunno. ive never had a supercharger before. will it change the emissions mix,or will the ecu bypass defeat any weird check engine condition is checked?

Yeah, I am still very happy. No issues. I'm on my 4th tank of gas. Did my first long drive (300 miles) on Saturday.

Mileage is down a little since my first post since I am driving it more aggressively. Currently at 16.4mpg.

Rad! :thumb:

Hey, quick question, has your truck been running hot? I ask because I see a bunch of schmeg on your coolant overflow return house.
