URD 7th Injector Tuning Guide

Only certain year vehicles are able to make part throttle adjustments to the AFR. (2000-2002 I believe)

A big problem with our vehicles is the lean condition at high gear low RPM. this is when Ping is most common in closed loop. to fix this we need to turn the injector on sooner to reduce Ping.

(Ping or Spark Knock, - The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise point in the piston's stroke. Knock occurs when the peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. )
You got the years you can tune closed loop backwards, it is 96-98 you can do it.

Edit: didn't realize I took the whole post! lol fixed

Shoots just a question, why didn't you just post this:

There is no playing telephone then. For my tuning section I am going to pull right from the online instructional videos and the manual just because it isn't a huge game of telephone then and there is no wrong information out there. In addition to that you could sprinkle your notes in there and any additional tips you have and it is a ton easier to write up since it is all formatted. Not to belittle anything that you are doing here, it really is great and will help a lot of people, just a little constructive criticism.

Thanks again for doing this man it is a big help.

because there were problems that it took me a long time to understand what i was doing wrong thats not in those instructions. they dont go over all the settings. programs and what to do. it took me a while to connect to the R4 software, it took me a while to figure out and flip back and forth between setting to make sure i was on 3 cyl 2 stroke.

I mention that i am puling alot of my information from the U tune guide.

i am mainly going into more detail to answer more questions.

I gotcah, I still would use the steps outlined there. maybe just quote the manual at the step you are in in your writeup? I am really not trying to be a jerk, I just know that helps eliminate conflicting information.
:iagree:

I actually didn't know those instructions were online: I have a paper copy of it and was mainly just making one for us online.

You've got me worried now.. I've purchased an SC and was planning on adding the 7th injector kit instead of going the AEM route because I'd heard that the 7th injector kit required little to no tuning out of the box. I don't even have a laptop lol.

A laptop would be a good thing to have lol borrow a friends if you have too [emoji14] you have to tune either setup, the no tuning for the 7th is a lie...

hey man your fine. this is mainly for those who want to tune their truck to maximum potential and smaller pulleys for more boost.

Honestly you don't have to tune it... If you are not going smaller pulley and don't beat it, it isnt worth it IMHO, mine was untuned for 95000 miles and it never had an issue...

Gotcha, ok... I guess the 7th injector is going to be the least tuning intensive option no matter what. Since I'm planning to go with the 2.2 inch, it sounds like I'll just have to suck it up and work with the software. Was planning on upgrading in stages (as money is made available), with gauges and water/meth injection going in a couple of months after the supercharger.

I'll definitely be referring to this guide come tuning time, but in your opinion will the supercharger with a 2.2in pulley run ok for a couple of months without a tune?

Yes it will run great.

So even with the 7th injector and tuned there is still chance of ping/detonation??? So meth/water injection is still needed to cool intake charge even after tuning?

It really is not less tuning intensive an I honestly think it would be dumb to go meth injection if you are going to be running a 7th. The cost for power ratio is much higher with that route because you already have the gas going through the blower giving the cooling effect that the meth is supposed to add

I will also be posting a base tune for the F/IC today or tomorrow, that will give you a very very good starting point. I would just weigh your options here and look close at what you are doing and how you want to deal with it. You will have to deal with the crap software with every upgrade you add and you will be paying double for essentially the same effect. If you wanted to go FIC you could be in for it and the meth kit right away over going for the URD kit. And from the sound of it the AEM would support your upgrades better.

Is it best to abtain the r4 software directly from split second for the $49 (download) or is there a better option?

I can't get the aic to connect to my computer! I have the R4 software, radio shack serial to usb connector. Sometimes the R4 program will crash and other times with will do a count down and then throw me a retry message. I exchanged the connecter also and it still does not work on the second one. Anyone have any solutions?
