Urgent: buying 2000 5 speed SR5, need advice plz!

Hello folks!

Yes, I have searched and read lots of post including our FAQ and buyers guide and have ideas on what to look for... However, I am asking you to please post here your advice on what to look for when I get to my destination to buy a 2000 3rd Gen 4Runner 5 speed with Bilsteins 5100 on front, K&N CAI. Any simple tips will help me. Thank you VERY much!!!

Good luck today. How many miles are on the truck?

Is the car at a dealership or a owner? That makes a difference on how much I look at. Also before I make my purchase, I always bring it to my "own" shop and have my buddy to a inspection for things that are hard to do in the field or a test drive.

Let us know any specific questions...

2000
SR5
5 speed manual
130k miles
Bilstein 5100 on front
K&N CAI
Pro Comp Wheels
Second owner
Ran the Carfax and no issues, good record. Previous owner sold it to dealership and looks like he/she was on the army due to the different locations the truck was stationed (HI, VA, etc).
Second owner told me timing belt was done at 85k miles.
He says he always takes the truck to his frieds shop. Apparently no rust.

Grab It!!

It's a no-brainer IMO. 3rd gen 5 spds are gods gift to man. If I wasn't strained financially from having graduated this year I'd be collecting those things. GL and congrats on the find.
 
The truck is not in my city, therefore not a chance to take it to a shop for further inspection. I am looking to create a list of things to do, check, or look for once I get there. From my readings, I do not know of anything big/mayor/or terribly wrong in the 5 speeds that I need to look for, but again...you guys are the experts !!! So, PLEASE, chime in ...!!!

Also, the Bilstein 5100 are set at 1.25 inches of lift. He said the rotors were turned about 5k ago, and all synthetics oil change every 5k.

Get a new set of rotors to the front. Turned rotors are good as used set of rotors.

Also install a TOYOTA air filter. Buy it from the dealer.

Also when did the previous owner did the T-belt?

5-Speed transmission is rock solid! I bought my automatic due to my wife! My car is 5 speed and I completely ignore it for another 30 K miles after changing the oil

Yes, brakes is my first mod to do. Either new 4Runner or Tundra... I need to learn more about this.

Why the Air Filter suggestion?

He said previous owner did the tb at 85k

so how much is he asking?

I bought my 2000 sr5 5sp manual just two weeks ago with 135k miles but mine was completely stock besides a weathertech cargo mat super clean underneath because lived in Washington State (sand state not salt state) its whole life
 
How long ago was the TB? I know it was at 85K but years factor in too.
Has it ever had the Lower Ball joints replaced?
Original clutch? How does it grab?
Check for rear axle seal leaks.
Check both the front and rear diff for leaks and listen for rear diff pinion noise.


How much are the asking? I have a '99 5 speed, they're pretty bullet proof IMO. I just did the TB/WP, seals, a clutch, ball joints and tie rod ends, etc... It's ready to go another 100K now without breaking a sweat.

2 1/2 years ago. Also removed and replaced clutch plate, disc, and throw out bearing, and a new flywheel was also installed.

I don't think the lower ball joints were done.
