USB Ports?

Those 2 are either Port or Dealer installed options.

Likewise. One in the front, two in the back. The one in the front is the only one that has a data connection, that you can use for carplay or android auto.
Wait a minute.... toyota says we have 4 of them???? But there's only 3? What else are they deceiving us about? Has anyone actually counted the number of tires included? :noidea:
I finally got around to digging through what's in the glovebox (car is very new to me), and found a little southeast toyota branded bag with some cables and a usb charging hub thing that plugs into the lighter outlet. Maybe that counts as the 4th usb?

Do you remember how the plugs look behind the panel? I need to split the front one that has data for car play and keep one in original spot, and run 2nd to glove box to install a wireless adapted.
Just wonder if I need a specific harness from Toyota or will a regular USB splitter work.
Also would you know how to remove the panel? DO I need to take out the radio, Hvac control and the whole thing just to access the USB space?

Hey everyone,
I just installed an aftermarket dual USB port from
Amazon, to replace the OEM USB/AUX jack next to the cigarette lighter in my 5th gen 4Runner. The new unit connects directly to the 12V lighter socket for power, but it completely omits the original plug that was connected to the OEM USB/AUX module.
My question is:
Where does that original plug come from, and what exactly is it for?
Why is it being bypassed in favor of just tapping into the 12V outlet?
Is this plug connected to the head unit for data (e.g. CarPlay or audio input), and if so, does skipping it mean I’ve lost functionality?
Appreciate any insight or wiring diagrams if someone has gone down this road. Thanks in advance!

Front: 1ea USB-A, 2ea 12V cig (dash and under armrest)
Mid: 2ea USB-C
Rear: 1ea 120V, 1ea 12V cig
If I use the front USB-A for Carplay, that leaves no stock usb's. I have a 4-way splitter for the 12V cig, providing power for radar detector, usb adapters, etc.
