Used 4Runner resale values

I keep a pretty close watch on used values of 3RD generation 4Runners. It seems like in the past few months, the values have dropped immensely. I am wondering why ? Is it because of the Toyota recalls that were in the news just a few weeks ago, or the economy in general ? Anyone have any other ideas ?

be specific please

Considering the last 3rd generation Runner sold was a 2002 model our vehicles are now a minimum of 9 years old. Similar to how a computer is a "dinosaur" at 3 years old- a vehicle is no longer considered up to date at age 9.

But be specific please. Are you referring to Kelly Blue Book values or what? At a certain age you simply can no longer look up such values-a 96 Runner for example would now be going on 15 years old and no longer listed whatsoever.

Could be an excellent time to be a buyer if you look at it that way:reddance:
 
I do not see what you are refeering to. I am always looking at 4runners on craigslist. Infact the shocking phenomenon is low mileage 3rd gens selling for more than 4th gens. I just saw an 02 sr5 4wd with 66k miles sell on ebay for 14,900.
 
It all depends on where your looking at: seller (dealer vs private, condition, equipment, year, etc...

I usually keep an eye on CL to see what they are selling for and havent seen a huge drop. I got hosed when I bought mine, but I had a trade in that was worth $22,500 (owed $12,XXX) and pretty much paid a few hundred under retail for the runner ($8700). Point is, I got mine at a Toyota dealer and they know what people will pay. Where as a private party will be generally be at least a grand less than a dealer if not more. This does not include wholesalers.

I saw that one on Ebay also. That Hyman Wholesale guy comes up with some great low mileage 4Runners. BTW, that 4Runner on Ebay that sold for $14900 was listed at least six times before it hit the reserve price. The right place at the right time.
I really follow the market closely and the prices have definitely fallen on 3RD gen 4Runners in the past six months. Not a whole lot, but they have fallen an average of $500 on KBB. No big deal, I was just asking for some opinions.

BTW, you can look up vehicles all the way back to 1990 on KBB.com with private party and resale values.
 
what is a fair price for my 00' SR5 4x4 3.4 auto 4 runner with 140k?

2 owners,all receipts since new,recent a/f sensor,wheel bearing,newer tires and brakes ... full tune up w/in last 20k including timing belt/water pump,plugs,wires,a/c recharge,radiator 30k ago...

rusty rear bumper and a ok paint job,not dinged much just lots of scuff,great 5'er - nice'sh up close

I bought it a couple months ago but need a pick up truck so I am going to ask $6k and hope to get close to $5.5k :snacker: :whipping2

I find it very interesting how prices on 3rd gens differ everywhere . My neighbor just sold her 99 Ltd for 10,500 last night ,first person to come look at it bought it . 98,99,00's LTD's for 10-11G is normal here .

Ask 8500 take 7000 plus. My friend just bought one similar to yours at a insurance auto auction theft recovered for 5600 before fees to give you an idea. It might be wise to spend 100 bucks on a new rear bumper if your truck is otherwise nice.
 
1st timer

Saw this and figured it'd be a good way to put my interest out there along with checking clist.... Turned in the 06 F350 4x4 crew diesel last week and looking for a 96-on 4Runner, 4X, pref auto but will consider everything under $5000.00. No projects please. The gal wants silver, so I guess I do too, but red works. In SF, CA area, will travel Western states.

Where can you find a new bumper for a C-note that's not aftre market junk? If you know of such a place please pass the info on there are a lot of folks looking for a good deal

I bought mine off ebay and it has lasted a couple of years. Just put some paint on the back of it and it should last a good while.
 
I am in central new york - but just listed mine for what I think is a fair price for a well maintained vehicle

great vehicle,just doesn't fit my use as I anticipated - but I do love the ride and the fancy of it - gets lots of looks:cheers:
 
I'm gonna agree to disagree. I've been looking for a 4Runner for months. The resale values are typically inflated over book values (KBB, NADA, Edmunds, Black Book, etc.). I've found exactly 4 clean 4Runners that match my criteria and are appropriately priced and ALL have sold within 48 hours of being listed.

As it stands, even I am willing to consider paying a smidgen more than I'd hoped in order to buy "the one."
 
Agreed, they are overpriced and they sell quick. I jumped on one with 79K. Was only able to talk him down $500.00 but he had a list of people to show it to. One guy actually waiting for me to leave!

If you look at Toyotas in general they are overpriced from the time they show up on the lot, you pay more for the peace of mind and the jealousy of Xterra drivers(joking!)
 
Just bought my 4runner on the 13th, yeah it was friday 13th, it was a great day for me.. Love my 02 2wd Desert dune color with 112,000 miles for $7500, it's really clean & not a drop of oil underneath the drivetrain.... I have'nt found anything wrong with it so far just doin a lil detail under the hood & inside too...Put so new pioneer speaker's in front door's today...Run On......
 
I just paid 6500.00 for a very nice 1998 limited 4x4 with 108k Miles. Mint leather, two tone, New T-belt and more, with tons of records and LTX tires with receipts. (755.00). Sold in one day, and there were 12 waiting for it if I didnt snag it. 4Runners in Colorado are like fat kids with cake.

I got a buddy in denver- I listed my 00' auto 4x4 -140k w/all service records since new for $6k and then $5.5 and nothing in central new york

I might want to drive out and sell it there :biggrin2:
 
Here in Colorado certain vehicles hold their value very well due to the snow. 4Runners and Subaru's are especially popular.

The dealer that I bought my 4Runner from specializes in late model cream of the crop vehicles and buys them up all over the country at auction - especially from areas where the values are lower. Mine came from Maryland and was a one owner documented pristine example.

I paid top dollar for mine and I'll get top dollar for it should I ever sell it.

Clean 4Runners hold their value for a reason - taken care of they will run forever.

Other vehicles like Jeeps Cherokees, Nissan Pathfinders, GM Whatevers do not hold their value remotely as well in this market.
