Used Tires

I am in the market for a set of Goodyear Duratracs and the price mounted and balanced is somewhere upwards of 1100~1200. My question is what is everyone's thoughts on buying a set of gently used tires to try them out. It's 5 Duratracs with 13/32-14/32 and one brand new one for $450.

Obviously there is some cons to buying used tires but being 1/3 of the cost, I would like to get some thoughts. You guys have influenced me on a lot of things regarding my 4runners so I figured I would start here.

I'd try to get them for $400 but that seems like a good deal to me. I just picked up my bfgs for $100 and they're at 10/32 and I couldn't be happier.

Thank you, My roommate also picked up BFGs and Rims for about 300 and he has been really happy. I figure 400 isn't a bad price for 5 tires.

Ask if they balance and whether or not they've ever been plugged/patched which you should be able to verify. Check to see if they're cupped etc but as long as they look decent it's really not a bad way to test out tires. I was apprehensive about the 255/75 so I kept checking cl until I found some used and got pretty lucky. Show up with cash and I figure most people won't say no to $400 cash being waved in their face for used tires...

Did you find these on the Denver craigslist? I think I saw the ones you're looking at. I'd check for patches as well, otherwise it seemed like a reasonable deal.

I bought my 285 65 18 bfg all terrain at ko used with 75% tread left for $240 for the set of 4. I'd do it, I'd check for plugs, I'd check side walls on the inside if there are plugs. This is to check if they drove on the flat or repaired it right away. Stuff happens so plugs and patches are not and should not kill a deal, just drives price down a little

You're price sounds good. But I wouldn't do it. I never skimp on rubber protective items. Like wearing a used Condom. Your tires are one of the most important parts of your vehicle.

Yes this was on the Denver Craiglist. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but I figure if they last me a year or 2 then I would be more than happy for $400. I need to do some more research.
