Using 265/75R16 insteadof 265/70R16?

Hello,
On my AWD v8 4Runner, will there be a problem using 265/75R16 tires instead of the default 265/70R16 size. I have read with AWD, all four tires must be the same size which is what I am planning to do. I also know the truck will run faster than the speedometer will show; so I must be careful not breaking speed limits.

Any other problem? Gas consumption difference?

70 and 75 is your tire width, i.e. how thick the rim is... You're not going to be able to run them on the stock rims. And no, Thicker tires won't require spedometer recalibration... Tire diameter can, however.. If you go from 265's to say 285's, I'd say you may want to look into recalibrating spedometer.

going from a 265/70R16 to a 265/75R16 is basically going from a 31" tire to a 32" tire. I recently did the same to my 2003 sr5 v8 and there are no problems. It seems kind of close, but there isn't any rubbing. Noticed little if any MPG droppage.

Your Speedometer will be a little off, more noticeable the faster you go. It is going with a taller tire, not wider.

For the 16" rims, 265/70 is the stock size. Going from 265/70 to 265/75 is increasing the height, or diameter, of the tire. The tire will be an inch taller. 265 is the width, so stock size is 265 millimeters wide. The speedometer will be a little off because the taller tire does not rotate at the same speed as the stock size. It is not much, I went from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17, which is the same as OP wants to do, just different size rim, and the speedometer is off about 0-3 mph depending on how fast I'm going.

I get the speedo part.. I was just always under the assumption width and height is switched.. (awkward..) What does going 285/70 do then?

The 70 and 75 are the aspect ratio representing the height of the sidewall... it's the percentage of the tread width. The overall height of the tire would be 2 sidewalls + the wheel diameter.

>> a 265/75 has a sidewall that is 198.75mm (75% of 265mm) so the height of this tire would be 31.65"

Just about an inch different as others have mentioned. The larger diameter does lower your indicated speed, but not by very much in this case.

I run this tire size in duratracs. Minor rubbing. Just depends on what brand tire you use.
