Last name is Fox, now you know who I am - hi! Been lurking for a few weeks and doing a little posting while waiting to get my new MGM TRD Offroad Premium.
I've had it for a week now and love it, though I wish I had Spotify control. The truck was all I could do to afford it on my lowly bus driver salary, so the mods will be coming slowly and mostly doing things I can tackle myself. I'd really like to get the Bilstein 5100s in, since reading PPL talking about the nose dive I'm kind of obsessing over it a bit, and will probably do this one soon.
I've been thinking of buying the 4Runner for a while now and setting it up to be a mini-rv, an escape vehicle that I can use around here just to get away for the night. I'd move into a full blown overlander, but I can't afford to go that way at the moment, and I'd also like to see what Toyota has in store for the 6th generation - I'd love to see them put that Chevy Mid-size diesel in, 20/30 MPG would be nice.
For the past 10 years or so, I've been doing more motorcycling and mod'ing those to suit my needs. Started with Triumph Scrambler, but after riding it for a bit decided I wanted to do some trips, and it just wasn't the right platform - though it was a really fun bike around town.
This was pretty much stock - the aftermarket pipe was installed by the dealer before I picked it up. Afterward I added a much more compact rear fender and lighting, which was my first foray into mod'ing.
Next up, the Tiger 800XC. Awesome bike - triple cylinder 800cc dual-sport. This was it all stock.
To this I added aftermarket exhaust, case protection, skid plate, USB power, lighting, bark-busters, and some pelican case luggage which I could setup in multiple configs based on the trip.
The bike was definitely a screamer, I'll never forget riding up a winding mountain road at the back of 2 columns of Harleys, 24 bikes in all - really thrilling. But this bike with luggage is 500+ pounds, me? 165 dripping wet. There are a lot of long sandy roads out here, and I worried that when I went down I'd not be able to get the bike back up by myself. So it went the way of the Scrambler to be replaced by a Yamaha WR250R, basically a mountain bike with a motor that can go 75 MPH all day (did a handful of 500+ mile days on it), but also all but the most technical of terrain. I bought it one February near Palm Springs, riding it back to SLC in two days no freeway.
On both Triumph's I really didn't do a ton of mods, though there was a pattern of ever increasing ones - I wonder if this with happen with the 4Runner? Only time will tell. Here's the finished WR²
The mods are really too many to list; engine, chassis, suspension, and tech. I was at a party a few blocks from my house, came out and kinda jumped on my bike and it sagged onto the kickstand and it went right over. I looked around super embarrassed but picked it right up. I should have kept this one but needed the money and wasn't using it much and sold it.
This brings me to now. Not sure what'll happen with the 4Runner, put in some Husky floor liners today (nice), and I've got techstream and a few LEDs inbound. I really appreciate the community here, very much like the motorcycling forums I used to haunt. So much to learn, and a much bigger platform to do it on.
