V6 engine noise - is this normal?

Hey! Sorry...it's been a minute since I've last been able to sit down and post anything.

Here's a picture of the clamp I was talking about. The Midwestern winters proved too much for it and it couldn't hold the torque. It snapped near the bolt, slid down the pipe and just danced on top of it at idle.

If you choose to get the Toyota part, be sure to order the bolt...it's not included with the clamp. The part number for the clamp is 90461-12353.

Can you take a pic of said clamp?

Excellent. Mine has been rattling only around 1100 rpm's. It sounds like a heat shield so I will check that one first. I just had to rip off the one over the muffler a couple monthes ago. I guess all the shields are going to fail at the same time?

So far, that's the only one that's given me any grief. I removed the clamp and tried to get the new one on but there's not enough space down there unless you have some smaller hands. It's been a few K miles without it and I haven't had any issues.

Had this same issue on a 3rd Gen. Metallic rattle/grinding while going slow and between 1000-1500rpm. Turned out to be an exhaust heat shield that was loose. Tightened it and the problem has been gone ever since.

Mine did that for a while... There's a clamp on the back of the catalytic converter that secures it to the pipe. Check it. The binding bolt rusted/broke and the loose clamp was rattling on top of the pipe at the speeds you mentioned.

I had a similar rattle (particularly when on an incline) then I remembered seeing this post and decided to check for the loose clamp last night. No more rattle. Thanks! :cheers:
