v6 vs v8 transmission roasting

Hi guys, I'm planning on doing some towing ~ 4500lbs boat + trailer through the rockies. Is there a difference between a V6 or V8 transmission?

I have a 2008 4wd sr5 v6 with an external tranny cooler installed.

my buddy has a V8 and his tranny holds up just fine.

Am I going to roast my v6 tranny doing this?

The v6 and v8 use the same transmission. You may just have to shift it down a gear through the mountains, but you should be fine. You're running the same part with less torque. When I towed with my V6 I used 4th until I hit about 60 then let it up-shift... and I towed more than 4500Lbs.

Transmission should be the A750F for all 4x4's and the A750E for the 2wd. Same used in the Sequoia, Tundra and Tacoma.

Looks like we have the same rig. I would do it. I climb those mountain passes on a regular basis, during summer towing ~2500lb boat. The 4Runner doesn't seem to stuggle at all. It never really gets hot in the mountains, so that external cooler should be plenty. Make sure your oil is in good shape and go for it. Enjoy!

Just make sure and leave it in 4th gear so it can spend as much time there as possible (torque converter doesn't lock below 4th).
