V6 vs. V8 vs. Sequoia

Wife loves her LC, really loves it, and my family is well protected from bad drivers, meteors, werewolves, etc.

Hahaha!! I have a FJ62 and get some funny comments all the time...and a lot of offers. $12K so far and I didn't budge. I'm really hoping the latest gen LC is my midlife crisis wagon. The 200 is growing on me, but I'm still about 20 years away from Crisis...(maybe a V8 in the 62, depends on the crisis)

I'd go with the Sequoia to keep this on track. I have three dogs, a one year old, and the Mrs. The 06 4Runner is tight.

$12k? Must be in primo shape! I traded in my last 80 for this 100, sad day, but the 80 was needing some significant PM. I still lust for another, but not to commute 200 miles to O'Hare in.

A Sequoia is probably the vehicle for this guy, payments on a LC would not be worth the extra toughness he doesn't need.

I've seen pics of a 100 hit broadside hard enough to flip it twice, and there was no penetration and no injury. I totalled one of my LCs hitting a construction crane at 60-70mph, it saved my life. I'm going to at least keep my family in one, even if I can't afford one for myself.

OK, I get the idea your cheap, of course if your real cheap, you could get a 2004 Ford Explorer, so my guess is you want value for your dollar. Some things to consider, if your watching the pennies.

. The V6 has a timing chain, i.e. you don't have to replace it at 90,000 miles like on the V8, i.e. you save money, $600 or more. I have the 4.0 V6 and it really does have pretty decent power.

. On the early 2003's they had the plastic cladding on the sides. They can be cheaper to buy as more people like the newer look.

. The 2005 V6 4Runner's have a 5 speed transmission, you never know, you might be able to go a little further on your gas.

I'm not so cheap that I didn't look at the LC since I posted. What strikes me though is that while the comfort level of the 3rd seat is much greater than the 4Runner, I'm not seeing much additional room behind the 3rd seat over the 4Runner. The LC is an incredible vehicle, but from my perspective, the Sequoia will do everything it can do with more interior space and for a lot less money. Don't get me wrong, I lust after an FJ60 for sale near our headquarters (throw in a 4bt, lift a few inches, ... oh yeah, too many kids for a mid life crisis right now!) Always loved the FJ80 as well, but the room just isn't there.

I quickly considered American made trucks (drive a diesel Suburban now), but a used gasser with 80,000+ miles from Ford or GM just doesn't cut it for the long haul when compared to a Toyota. Everyone I know buys the American cars new and dumps them around 100,000 miles because they start to cost too much in maintenance.

2003 was just an example year, looking at the best deal on the newest that I can find.

I like the fact I have the best of both worlds. I almost went with the 80 but I could not get past the coolness of the 60s and 62s. Besides, I have the 06 SE for a DD. He needs the Sequoia, I completely agree.

Yeah, my 62 is purdy...I often get asked who restored it. I do plan on sending it to TLC in SoCal one day for a complete make over.

Oh wow. I hope you're on Mud, that's too nice to not be an enthusiast. The 80 is really the pinnacle of Land Cruiser to me, incredibly refined and still a third-world simple rugged vehicle. I love all the LCs, even the 55, but the 80 just seemed to do everything.
