V8 break in time

As per the manual, the break-in on any new Toyota is 1,600kms, or ~1,000 miles.
Basically, they just want you to drive at varying speeds and rpm levels. No long periods of idling, and no hours on end of freeway cruise control. If you're the freeway, vary your speed a bit, use 4rth and 5th intermittently.....wind it up a bit and then let it decellerate, stuff like that. Don't floor it everywhere, but don't take it too easy on it....basically normal driving.
Most of the real "break in" usually takes place within the first few miles of transporters/techs/lot guys/salespeople/test drivers flooring the thing everywhere anyways

In a nutshell, you can run Synthetic oil longer than conventional oil. It offers better protection and "lasts" longer than regular oil. Price is anywhere from $3-$6 a quart.
Honestly many dealers dont know shit about what they sell.
I recommend synthetic oil simply because you can run longer oil change intervals, it offers better protection and with the longer intervals you are saving money in the long run.
Not to mention that is typically will improve fuel mileage and longevity of your engine.
Alot of people use Synthetic, and alot of people don't. Its a personal choice. I am sure others will chime in.

I did the first oil change at 1000 miles and I have it changed and lubed every 4K miles. My dealer uses Castrol GTX 5w30 and I have them lube the 6 zerts on the driveline every OCI. Every other oil change I also have them rotate the tires (8K miles). At 15K have the front and rear differential fluid changed and at one year intervals change the "cabin filter". At 30K miles change the airfilter and front/rear differential fluid and also the transfercase. You can use this website to know what to do and when to do it. also here is where to buy your gas www.toptiergas.com this way you won't have to have your fuel system cleaned. Also the V8 runs great on regular, if you tow heavy or are doing mountain driving would I ever consider premium, other wise you are wasting your money.

I plan to switch to synthetic oil at 1000 mi.
However, I really don't believe should run synthetic longer than conventional, you most likely can, but I wouldn't.
One of the biggest reasons you change your oil is because it gets dirty right? Well, synthetic oil is going to get just as dirty just as fast as conventional oil. When it gets dirty you change it.
As I said, I do plan to switch to synthetic and also plan to stick to Toyota's 5,000 mi OCI.

I am all about getting use out of anything. thats why I use extended drains on my oil.
The only way to verify how "dirty" your oil gets is by performing Used Oil Analysis. Give me some time and I will post up my analysis on my wifes Jeep, one with Dino oil @ 3500 miles and one at 6000 miles with Synthetic. The side by side results should be interesting.
Not only does synthetic last longer and offers a extra bit of protection, it can lower operating tempatures. Many people think that oil is just for lubrication..... its #2 Job is cooling. About 50% of your vehicles cooling system is motor oil.
Additives in Synthetic oil last many times longer than Dino oil as well..

What I'm saying is, when oil is dirty (read black) it's time to change it, period. Doesn't matter if it's syn or conv.
My Cummins turbo diesel oil would be black several hours after I changed it, Oil color has nothing to do with how dirty it actually is, its a chemical reaction that changes the color, not dirt.
