V8 conversion

Does anyone have any info on other swaps in a 3rd gen?? I have unlimited resources in the salvage industry(junkyard). I thought it would be pretty cool to put in a new vortec or something along those lines.

I found a thread that shows how to replace your engine with a giant hamster wheel. Then you just fill it with hamsters and they power the wheel. 100 hamsters is equal to 100 Hp (hamster power) which is equal to .2 horsepower. Its legit. Let me find that link . . .

Oh gosh I need to sleep. But I can't!

Singtoe, this is incredible. Hats off to you sir.

Thank you Sir.

Reading it from start to finish - Kind of like watching The Walking Dead - Crazy intro, melancholy middle , seat hanger ending - just waiting to see whats next.

I just read this thread through and all I have to say is wow. If I ever come into some money, my truck along with a donor sequoia may show up at your shop.

Your 4Runner is amazing my man. If I'm ever in Raleigh I'd love to see it. Something about a Jap V8 to shut up all the hillbillies (I love the American stuff too, but dammit Toyota deserves some respect!) just makes me happy.

Enjoy. You deserve it for sure.

My baby runs awesomely. 2 years and all is well. I killed my electric fans and stater contacts doing a deep water crossing and I had a little spat with valve stem seals but all is well now.

We had about 5" of snow this week and had nothing but fun.

I know that center and rear locked, the beast will not stay on the road. Stepping on the gas will cause 3 wheels to spin and the rear end to kick out. Unlock the rear and the 4runner is a rocket ship in the snow. ABS still works flawlessly and the hub locks do their thing.

I still get a smile every time I step on the gas.

I love your truck. I ended up going the SC route, so I've got a 2.1" pulley, URD 7th, and still wish I had more power. When my motor blows up I think I'll swap a v8 in. Love it.

Winter fun.

How does the exhaust sound?

Hey singtoe, I'm trying to weigh my options to do this swap. I found a wrecked tundra here in Raleigh, guy is asking $2800 for the truck, 2000 tundra 4.7 4wd. Is it worth it? Otherwise, he will give me the engine and trans for $1500, but I'm sure it would be handy to have other parts from it. I work at a dealer so I've sourced engine and trans for cheaper than that, just trying to weigh my options.

:jaw: Wow. I read through most of this today. Too bad I missed this when it actually happened, but this is amazing. I love the sound of the V8.

$1500 for the motor and tranny is great. That is an awesome price.

Get the complete motor - ac compressor, manifolds, power steering pump, alternator and all the msc nuts and bolts.

Work out a deal to get the wire harness and ECM. Get the Evap box, Fuel pump, Fuel pump resistor, and front drive shaft.

If you did the work yourself you could break even for the swap by selling your motor, ecu and tranny.

I am having a Grand opening this weekend. Come down to my Shop and check my truck out. We are cooking a whole pig and doing some give aways.

Look up Clayton Guns on FB for directions.

Nice job on the conversion. :thumb: I've been wanting to do this to my wifes '00 since we got it back in '07. When I found your write-up, I was ready to start until I read the body-lift part. :hand: Wife is only 5'4" and has a hard time getting in my '06 2500 Dodge 4x4 that is stock. Now I'm trying to convince her it's time to replace the old 'runner (350k mi.) with something newer. Then I can build me a toy. :eyebrows:

Sounds good man, I'll let you know what happens. When and what time this weekend? I would love to swing by and check it out.

The 4runner is easy to get in and out of. My 70 year old aunt can climb in with no problem.

The dodge truck probably sits higher then a 6" lifted 4runner...

Come by anytime, doing a raffle at 2:00.
