V8 conversion

Personally, I'd break the MIG back out and redo the manifold and primary cat pipe...there's nothing better than doing a mod and making it look factory. Bashing the floor in and/or doing the body lift takes away from that "factory" look. Just my $.02, but in any event, your project looks great thus far!
 
I'm not a fan of body lifts myself. My vote would be apply the work you'll put into installing that and making it look good into re-working the components for a proper fit.

You'll come away knowing you made it work vs having to rely on a body lift for fitting.
 
Anyone have the number you're supposed to call if you've had wood for more than 4 hours???? I've had one since this thread began on 12/11 and at this point I'm harder than a diamond in an ice storm!!! :hungry:

It's my buddy's free exhaust he slapped together just to pass mechanical....we were supposed to fix this today after we did my panhard bracket drop...but didn't have time!
 
OK, Here is the scoop. The driver side manifold is hitting and the passenger side is uncomfortable close. The engine cover touches the hood liner. I am afraid that when the motor torques up, it might dent up the hood and my fuel lines are ridiculously close to the driver's cat.

Plus, I would like to run 285 tires too.

So I have decided to go with a body lift.

Being the frugal and impatient person that I am. I spent $40 and made my own 2" lift. Will install it tomorrow.

Anyway- Did a little work this morning.

Hooked up my power steering.

The 4runner had an electric pressure sensor that bumps the idle up when turning.

The V8 was operated by a mechanical switch that let more air in past the throttle body.

It was cold this morning too.

To be honest, The hard part is over. Just buttoning it up.
 
Funny Story! Yesterday, while I was lowering the body on to the frame, I had to lift it up to remove my ghetto stands. I had it suspend on floor jacks and extensions. I started to lower it and the body started going side ways. I was freaking out. I was imagining the carnage. What would i say to the insurance company? I grabbed the body and pulled it back over center. I was stuck though. I couldn't let go of it. It would start to sway lean over one direction or the other.


I had to call my brother (thankfully my phone was in my pocket) and he came over and held while position jacks for more stability. Then to lower it down evenly.

I was sweating bullets for a while there.

I'd love to see this v8 in action, although I was hoping you'd go with a 3" exhaust so that everyone KNEW you had a v8. :drummer:

I wasn't trying to detract from this amazing feat...was seriously so excited someone was tackling this monumental task.

I really don't know why body lifts are so popular here, they're garbage. Sorry, just my opinion... :(
