V8 Engine Idle

I've got a 2007 V8 4Runner, and while stopped the engine idles up 250 RPMs to 750 RPM when the air condition cycles on and when the air cycles off it drops back to 500 RPMs. The AC compressor cycles on and off about every 15 - 20 seconds, so while at a light the engine is constantly idling up and down. I took it to the dealer and they said everything is working normal on the ac. If find it hard to believe that the ac should cycle on and off so much, and that the V8 really needs to idle up 250 RPMs to handle the ac. Is this really normal???? Thanks!

Seems normal. I have the V6 and that is what it does on mine as well.

Yep, that sounds normal. Mine does the same thing. It keeps shutting off the compressor to regulate the temperature of the system and prevent it from freezing up.
