I bought my 2007 Limited 4.7L with 13,500 miles on it a couple months ago. My noise is exactly as described at the beginning so I am going to switch it out after I get back from a trip. I will report on results then. To all of you worried about the noise I can tell you with certainty it is not a rod knock or bottom end noise (crank) or a cracked exhaust manifold.

Still have the knock even with the new part and a fairly warm morning this morning. Goes away when the engine is warm.
Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but a couple of days after I changed the part I also switched oil from a 5w-30 blend to 0w-30 Mobil 1. I had never used synthetic before.

I take it to a train station which is only a 4-5 minute local street drive away. Nothing over 35 mph. By the time I get there and idle for another minute or two it is mostly gone.

Well, went out yesterday and the knocking is actually getting worse and happening longer while I'm driving. Turns into a slight gurgling sound when sitting at a stop and I was driving for about 30-40 minutes last night and it never went away.
After researching the Mexican made Standard Motors $34 part I ordered a little further and checking some Toyota OEM parts sites, I think that particular part I got from RockAuto is for the v6 engine.... and its likely not as well made as an OEM part.
I also went to this site to find out more about the part and its function and discovered it is factory calibrated so even more reason to go with OEM.....

I removed the $34 part this morning and plan to return it to RockAuto. I cleaned up and reinstalled the original part until the new one arrives. After reinstalling the original I'm not not getting any knock even at start up.
I went to Toyotapartszone.com and got this OEM part for $83 (including shipping to NJ).

If the knock never comes back, I may return this one too. Perhaps reseating it was all it needed. Who the hell knows. All I know is that little noises from the engine make me nuts.

Has anyone else seen the ticking return since the installation of the new damper? I have a ticking when I have a cold start and I'm thinking of trying this out.

I'm skeptical that this is a fix at all.....sounds like the knock you are referring to in the V8 is "piston slap." From my understanding, and talking to people on this forum and Toyota techs, the V8 suffers from "piston slap." My V8 does it as well, mostly in cold or sometimes cool weather. Goes away when it warms up, or engine heats up.
This is harmless from what I understand........read more at the link below. It mostly refers to GM's, as they are notorious for it, but the concept is the same.
Stick with recommended oil viscosity, and if you are in a really cold climate, possibly even lighter during coldest months so oil can get to the pistons faster. Keep load light until engine is warm. Or, install a block heater if it really bothers you.

Out of curiosity, I ordered and received the Toyota part from Partznet the other day. Installed it at lunch yesterday.
Knocking is still there.
This "fix" might work for some, as these dampers do sometimes go bad, but it is not a solution for the piston slap noise experienced by many 4.7 owners.

Also, this ticking occurs for me during "cold starts", but not necessarily on cold days. We had a 100 degree day recently and it did the exact same ticking noise until I drove it a bit. Temperature doesn't seem to be the issue as much as just driving the car for an amount of time.

I'm starting to feel the same way. I haven't taken the part out of its sealed bag yet cause once I do it is non-refundable. I might just live with it as it is.

I just had an inspection a few weeks ago for my "new" car and received this recall notification. It appears this is the part you guys are talking about but being a noob I would like to make sure.

opI got that same notice: with my inspecti with my inspection sticker I just replace the damper and it took care and it took care of my issues
