V8 muffler... Flowmaster or magnaflow?

Changing muffler and tail pipe. Staying with single exhaust. I want to be able to hear it but don't want super loud. I've heard the Flowmaster on two others and like it but exhaust shop is trying to push the magnaflow even though they carry both.
Thoughts?

This won't be much help, but from what i've seen on here, most people seem to be happy with the Magnaflow mufflers.

That being said, I bought the Flowmaster SUV 50 Series and once it was broken in, i've been very happy with it. It has a slight drone at 2000rpm. But it doesn't have that glass pack 'clap' at all. I guess the best way to describe it is that it sounds beefier than stock, but it isn't blatantly obvious to people 100' away that you have AM exhaust. I.E. Not obnoxious.

people aren't happy with magnaflow. look up a thread called "Horrible Experience with Magnaflow" By ChildrenOfBodom. Totally swayed my opinion on magnaflow.

Curious on the sizes of these mufflers. Are they the same large diameter, or by any chance smaller in size.
Our stock ones stick out there due to size and has gotten to many hits, may not be there on the next trail so to speak.

Idk how much you are willing to spend but I got the Gibson stainless catback a few months ago for $360 or so. It's up to $387 now - Amazon.com: Gibson 618708 Stainless Steel Single Exhaust System: Automotive
It sounds good, louder than stock but not ridiculous and install was really easy.

Otherwise the non stainless version can be had for $240 Amazon.com: Gibson 18708 Single Exhaust System: Automotive

I know a muffler itself is cheaper than those but might be more of a hassle with cutting and welding.

I installed the flow master American thunder cat back . Prolby a 7-10 hp gain and if you have a v-8 amazing sound it's stainless big difference I did notice how small the factory y pipe is so I will be having a custom one mad up that is full 2 1/2 shortly . Just my.02 and the gf was a little sceptical af she heard it gave her thumbs up ..

Magnaflow has bad customer service and Flowmaster's do not flow. Flowmaster's are usually not stainless steel either. Have you considered Borla? Take a look at their XR-1 muffler.

I have to confess, I've had many many exhausts on my hotrods. I put different mufflers, different configurations on the same one every couple of years just because I get bored with the sound. lol. Chances are the T4R will be no different.....
This one has had AT LEAST 10 different systems (not exaggerating) in the 21 years I've had it....

Could always get a borla pro-xs muffler and weld it in (just like the flowmaster etc...)... it's the same muffler that's in their catback system for the 4Runner... If you remove your resonator you have essentially the same setup as the borla catback for a fraction of the price. I'll let ya know how this sounds on a V6 because I'm welding it my borla 40665 this week.

I went with a 2.5 in/out extra long magnaflow muffler w/ resonator delete on my GX470 (V8) and it sounds great, nice little rumble, very little drone, and loud on WOT.

Why not stay with a stock setup? I don't understand why anyone wants a vehicle to be louder at any speed or RPM. I honestly find it annoying when I hear any vehicle with a loud exhaust system. For the folks that do, more power to ya! It is a free country. Just realize that the vast majority of people enjoy a quieter ride. My two cents worth.

Sorry, I couldn't resist, though I will agree that I only approve of loud V8's (or V12's in high end cars). Loud 4 cylinders and 6 cylinders do not sound good to me other than a few inline 6 Supras which are ok.

I like my offroad toys to have a nice rumble, the gx was super quiet like a camry, the resonator delete and magnaflow really opened her up, now she sounds mean w the v8 rumble
