V8 PCV location?

question...does the V8 have a true PCV system or CCV system.

On Jeep cherokees sometime during the '90's, they switched from a traditional PCV system to a CCV system which has no PCV valve in the traditional sense. Maybe this is why Toyota doesn't regularly stock them???

Other manufactures also use(d) the non-PCV system as well...like GM with the Quad 4 engines.

I believe it does have the PCV system. The metal rod with the red tip in the picture is pointing to it. I think I'm just going to swing by the dealership and ask them to identify this mystical filter thingy...

That thingy you have circled in yellow is vacuum surge tank/chamber. Absorbed gas vapor from the charcoal canister passes thru it to the VSV (the thing that controls the EVAP switching)

The V8 has a normal PVC valve (a check valve) and not A CCV. I still have a Jeep so I know exactly what you are asking. The PVC works off of vacuum and the CCV works off a ventrui.


I would just remove the PVC valve and clean it with brake cleaner. Once dry blow thru it in both directions. One side will pass air and the other side will block air.

Well' it has a PCV filter not a PVC filter..lol
But like mentioned, one just cleans it out and re-install or buys a new one either way. I chose to clean it at 105k with carb cleaner but when my truck has 200k I'll buy a new one even if it needs to be ordered. The spring inside them weakens and it causes issues. Meaning just because a PCV rattles don't mean it's good. :nono:

Probably the most overlooked maintenance item on any vehicle by most owners & shops it "can" cause serious damage costing big money in the long run on "some" engines although rare it's happened.
Surely it is the most common cause for seals/gasket leaks on engines from pressure buildup inside engines. Well' except GM cars that use chitty seals/gaskets to begin with. :flamethrwoer2:
I've always replaced or cleaned them on my cars for decades but most people have no clue what one even is if you mention it. I couldn't find this one and wondered if it had one too, so thanks guys.

A quick google now, I hit this PCV article but I'm sure there are better ones if one really searches. Read it you'll get the point though.

Well I know on mine behind the air filter hose after the box there is another pcv looking neck coming out of the valve cover so I'm assuming that's another pcv valve
