V8 Resonator Removal

Has anyone chopped just the resonator at the back off? Does it sound any different? Was considering doing this and replacing it with a 90 elbow.

Not really. Maybe a little more growl when you start the truck but that's about it.
My muffler was beat up pretty badly from wheeling and I replaced it with an elbow like you're planning. No further damage, no objectionable noise and I don't get the rotten egg smell while driving with the rear window down any longer!

Thank you, that's what I wanted to hear.

I'll eventually be stuffing a new muffler under there as well. Just wanted to get rid of the resonator for now.

Cut it off. I added a Magnaflow tip.

With removing the resonator, how does that affect emissions tests if it even does?

No emissions testing in Oklahoma. All it does is lets the V8 sound like a V8. A little rumble. The resonator is just another muffler. Cut the hanger off the resonator to weld onto the tip to keep it solid.

Removed resonator, installed flowmaster 40 series ... Sounds amazing! A little interior drone, but sounds great! If I could go back, I'd throw a magnaflow in just to help with the drone ... But resonator out for sure! Doesn't hurt anything, and gives it a little more throat!
