Fellas,
I believe it's time to rebuild my starter but wanted to confirm my symptoms before I tear into the intake manifold and all that fun stuff. Those of us with the V8s, have the "quick start" feature and this wasn't happening. For the V6 owners; we simply touch the IGN and the engine cranks on its own until starting. In my case, when I did this, I heard one click.
So, I went ahead and cranked the starter like a normal car, more clicks came then started right up. I did check the battery voltage during cranking and clicking and she is rock solid at 12.6 vdc. Battery is less than a year old so I expected this. Alternator is outputting 13.8 vdc during idling.
This didn't happen the rest of the day so it makes sense that the starter contacts and plunger need to be rebuilt. Vehicle has 340k miles and I can only assume it's the original starter.
Am I on the right track here?
