V8 Throttle Body gasket question

Hey all,

I recently removed my throttle body and gave it a good proper cleaning. It was pretty nasty.

While doing this, I realized that I probably should have replaced the gasket as there was some sign of leakage.

I noticed that the new ones (OEM and aftermarket) have these little "wings" while my current one is completely flat. Anyone know what these are for?
