So I changed my VCGs yesterday. Was pretty uneventful except for the very end.
I check wires, hoses, etc. Put the negative battery cable back on, and crank her up.
Starts up just fine, but I quickly realize something is wrong. Used my Torque app to monitor temps as it warmed up, and as it did, the idle lowered too far. Sat around 480-500 in park, and near stalled in gear unless I gave it gas.
Seemed like an airflow issue, and then a CEL came on. Checked it with Torque, and sure enough, the MAF.
Weird thing is, I cleaned it with MAF cleaner when the air intake was apart. Hosed down, then let air dry, as I'd done like 3 other times since I bought this thing.
So I removed it and cleaned it again, but same thing.
So I had a spare (non-OEM eBay) MAF lying around from a previous issue a few years ago. Plugged that in, and instantly the CEL went away, and the idle returned fine.
So apparently cleaning the MAF broke it? I used the same MAF spray I'd used for years. Literally, the same bottle. Does the spray go bad? I don't think I saw an expiration date.
Anyways, luckily I never returned the eBay MAF. $14 well spent, 2 years later.
I'll grab some new spray next time I'm at Walmart and try the original MAF again soon.
