Valve Cover Off - What else to do?

I started replacing my valve cover gasket today. Now that the valve cover is removed, does anyone have recommendations on what else I should do?

Also, any recommendations on how to install the spark plug tube gasket?

Lastly, I've heard varying opinons on whether or not to use silcone. Any thoughts?

I just did mine not too long ago while changing my head gasket. Make sure you have a mallet. It will definitely help because a regular hammer seems like it can crack it. Mallet and a nice flat head, use your creativity-caveman skills, patience, and you got it.
