Valve Lash?

So I just got my 4runner back together from a HG blowing up.

I had a machine shop resurface the head and put in new valve stems.
""Under load"" mainly I am getting a loud ticking noise coming from the valve cover. I had some put there foot on the brake and throttle and its definitely coming from the top of the motor and just from the passenger side

Ive been told that it just needs to be worn in since I have only driven it about 20 to 30 miles. Is this true or did the machine shop possibly do something wrong or me for that matter

What engine?

The injectors give a very loud tick on these engines (at least on the 22RE), and it's often mistaken for valve issues. The injectors on the 22RE are also on the passenger side under the intake plenum.

Sorry yea its a 3.0 and it didnt have that tick prior to the HG.

I can hear it in the cabin and it pretty loud outside the truck when the sound bounces of another car on the road. Also the sound will change depending on throttle. For example;

Crusing in OD i can adjust throttle without downshifting and the ticking will get louder the more throttle/load is on the motor

well if the shop said to just wear them down, try that and in 100 miles or so if its still doing that have them fix it
