Very frustrated with trying to buy new

I see everyone on here saying they pay around invoice. My luck hasn't been so great. I'm not making a trade-in, flexible with colors, but I do have a few must have options. Every dealer I visit won't really do anything less than sticker price, which from seeing threads on this board, I absolutely refuse to pay! What gives? I'm not going to pay thousands more than everyone else. I'm getting to the point where I'm willing to travel to find a decent salesman.

have you tried www.carsdirect.com? i printed their quote and took it to a dealership and they said they would match it.

another method i read about that worked for others was faxing 10-20 dealers with what you want and the price that you want to pay. you might only get one or two replies but at least you don't have to hassle with those dealers that want to screw you. oh yea, and check out this site www.carbuyingtips.com. lots of good tips.

You may want to try sending out a 'request to quote' by fax or email.
Send it to 2 or 3 local dealerships and make sure they all know who you sent it to.

You might get a more competetive quote that way.

The Canadian Toyota dealerships use an online price calculator.

The up side is that you know exactly how much you are going to pay...including tax, before you go to the dealership. The downside is that they hide behind this as way to not have to negotiate with you. "We can only sell for what it says on-line". Even though the price is under the MSRP, it takes away the ability to leverage dealerships against eachother.

Thats something I might have to try. In the worst case senario, all they could say is no.

I'm looking in Illinois, St. Louis metro, Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Most of the dealers don't have many in stock and say because of that they "don't have much room to move".

Try talking with the internet sales manager. I never deal with regular sales people they have no power and waste your time.

Can't help you in that area of the country. Maybe there's not much in stock because I hear the 2005's are soon to be out in the dealers showrooms. If you could wait until they are (the 2005 model), you may get a better deal on a 2004 or a chance to pick up an improved 2005. If it was me, I'd tough it out and wait. It's worth waiting for. :)

It's just easier to pay what the dealer wants then waste money traveling across the US.

Depending on the area you live in and the options you want the vehicles may just be hotter and the dealer knows they will sell it, face it the 4Runner is like crack, they sell themselves people know how they want them and are willing to pay for them.

My 03 Limited had a sticker of $42,755 and I paid like 1300 over invoice the Xmass after they came out and for some reason at that time it was like everyone decided to buy a 4Runner, when I get my 05 it will be the same probably pay 1000 over invoice.

Read this website from page to page: http://carbuyingtips.com/

Some tips that other members have put down are covered in greater detail here. I read that site before hitting the dealers and I got a great bargain on my T4R.

Sticker price was about 33500 and I was able to talk them down to about 30500. They had asked me during the test drive if I was trading in my car. I told them no. When we finally decided on the price, then I told them I wanted to trade in the car. This tactic forces the dealership to settle on two separate prices, the new car and your trade in. You don't want them to know first off that you are trading in because they'll try to give you a good price on the new car, and then gouge you on the trade in or vice versa. Tricks like that are covered in the site, and the best thing is the site is completely FREE !!!!! All it'll cost you is a few hours of reading to save a few thousand dollars.

Save yourself some money and read the site. Also try to go to dealerships out of your immediate area if no one is trying to deal with you. Tell that dealership that you want to buy, but only for a fair price that you and the dealership will be happy with.

Good luck and you'll be exstatic when you finally get your T4R!

If you are a member of AAA or a credit union you may want to try going through them to find a dealer that will work with you through their fleet program.

:iagree: with sharp4runr.
I bought mine Sport Ed. 3 weeks ago in chicagoland area. Sticker price was 32,609 and I got it for 29 000 . Before I go to dealer i read that web site " from page to page " and it helped me a lot. However try first Internet sales. For example Shamburg Toyota has a guy who answered to my e-mail next day and he gave me guaranted price 300 below (theirs) invoice which was close to one I calculated myself. No questions about my trade-in, financing or anything.
So before You go to dealer take a good look at http://carbuyingtips.com/
Good luck and hope to see pictures of Your new 4Runner soon..

hehe, well that's at least two T4R owners who can attribute their rides to that website

try http://www.edmunds.com/

I spend almost 6hrs at the dealer
my sticker price was 36750
I paid 33800

Friend, don't pay more than Edmunds unless you're really in a pinch. I had to special order my 4Runner from a dealership that wasn't super motivated to deal. At the time of order, I came in just slightly under the Edmunds price. But... As luck would have it, my 4Runner arrived during a $1000 incentive rebate period and they knocked another grand off the price. That's how I was able to get mine at invoice.

I hope things work out for you...

Well, it would almost be worth it to travel to Oklahoma City. All 04' 4Runners in stock are $5500 off msrp at Hudiburg Toyota. They have around 9 of them on the lot. No 4x4's though.

I'm oging to do some serious looking around this afternoon and evening. Call me a hard nose customer or whatever, but I'm not buying anything until I get exactly what I want at the price I want.
