After much debate, I decided to keep my 4Runner and not sell it...I haven't even owned this truck for a year yet, and the engine and drivetrain are very rock solid, I just can't part ways with it at the moment. Anyway I do need to replace the fuel tank since it does have a pin sized hole leak. Aside from the fuel tank, I'd also be replacing the fuel pump, fuel pump tank seal, and the fuel tank filler neck. Is there anything else that I should have replaced too? I hope I covered everything. Also when I start the truck after she's been sitting all night I get a slight squeak which sounds like a belt slipping for a bit. I replaced the timing belt and idlers as well as the water pump back when I first bought the truck as well as the accessory belts too. After I replaced the timing belt I didn't have any squealing when I did a cold start but over time it came back. I can't tell if it's an accessory belt, they are both properly tight or if it's coming from under the timing cover. Has anyone else had this problem? My truck has the 3.4 V6 with 170k thanks!

Check rock auto for parts. They carry Denso parts for less then the stuff at the auto part stores. I just bought a denso fuel pump and filter myself.

I just replaced the fuel filter not too long ago. Is there a good brand for the fuel pump? All the parts I've bought for this truck I've bought off rockauto. When I had some rust patched on my frame they had to drop the fuel tank and I wanted them to replace the fuel pump then but the owner talked me out of it saying that the pumps on these trucks almost never fail. But it's a 15 year old truck and since I'm replacing the tank I'd be stupid not to replace the pump

Have you ever thought of some JB weld for the fuel tank? Worst case you lost $10 on some JB. Best case, it works and you don't have to replace all those parts.

I'd put some belt grease on one accessory belt at a time to narrow down which one is squealing. One belt a day. The morning you start up without a noise will let you know which belt it is.

I was looking into doing something with my fuel tank also. Mine is not leaking but I had, what I thought was a fuel pump problem, about 6 months ago. I removed the driver's side rear seat and rear door sill to be able to peel back the carpet to expose the "access port" for the top of the tank. It's not meant to change the pump or anything, just to get to the electrical connections.
Anyways, I didn't like what I saw. Those long metal tubes that come out of the tank and connect forward of the tank to some rubber hoses were all rusted. I imagined if I were going to drop that tank, and remove the top "bracket" that hold the fuel pump internally and has those metal tubes on it, I would damage those tubes. I was thinking about just replacing the whole assembly as it is only $80.
I would also be inclined to replace as much rubber under there as I could because I wouldn't want to do that job again.
Check out the exploded view and notice the "filler neck" has many pieces to it. Which piece(s) do you need to replace? The part I was talking about is 77203A.
I was considering finding a used tank in good shape and just refurbishing it then putting it in.
Sorry about the large picture format. Oh and those aren't part #'s either (well part of it is). They're just reference #'s so that, as someone explained to me on here, (think it was The Durk) you can't click and paste the part #'s to find competitive pricing.

I tried a lot of JB weld and it isn't working...It's a marine JB weld that's resistant to petroleum and chemicals..But it hasn't worked...yeah the thought of having to replace the fuel lines because of rust has crossed my mind..however my fuel tank was dropped and removed when my frame was repaired and they didn't have to replace the lines they were able to get them free.

I also thought about buying a tank from a junk yard, but being in the Northeast I'm sure the tanks I'd come across are just as rusty as mine so it just makes sense to buy a new one. I'm just going to buy these parts and take them to the shop that specializes working on 4Runner's and Tacomas and have them do it.
