very small question about cargo net

Which year are you asking about?

The 4th gen models have two cargo nets -- a spider net that covers the double-decker cargo shelf and an envelope net just in front of the tailgate. I have both and find the envelope net handy.

The envelope net is a must have in my mind. Before I bought one, everytime I would open my tailgate, something would come rolling out.
 
I think I may have used the spider net once, in all the years I have had my '03. But, the rear envelope net is used all the time. Besides keeping stuff from falling out when you open the hatch, it is a good place to store small, breakables when carrying other stuff in the rear. I also find it easy to store small bags of groceries and other small purchases until I can get them home.
 
I actually did not know there are two nets.. my car is 2007. I was thinking about the tail net so I know now it is very useful :) thanks guys!
 
I use both nets. The tailgate net for groceries in a bag and the spider net to hold those big stuff (that don't fit in the tailgate net) so that they will not slide all over in the back.
 
When I saw the 'net' I figured it was a tailgate net. Months later, I realized it wasn't. Still use it that way, until I buy one.

:confused: There's a big difference between spider net and cargo net.
 
For the life of me I could not figure out how to install the spider net. I did not see the little claws that you use.

Took it to the dealer, and after three different guys tried, they finally got it on.

Bottom line: it is almost useless. I have left it on, but seldomly use it.

I did have an envelope net on my GMC Jimmy and used it all the time. Great place to put stuff plus it kept things from rolling out when you opened the hatch.

Heres another viewpoint...

I have had my 4runner since 02, never had a net in it and never really needed one.

So, maybe, depending on the way that you use it you may not need a net at all
 
So the envelope net is the one I'm missing, the spider is pretty much useless. Where can I get the envelope net without going to the stealership?

Lift up your double decker shelf. Along the bottom edge underneath, there are four hooks, two hooks to each side of the "handle" opening to raise the DD shelf. The loops of spider net attaches to these hooks on the edge of the DD closer to the rear hatch. There are two clips on the other end of the net, these go to the D rings behind the second row.
 
I had the spider net that covered the cargo shelf but I never used it and it got in the way. It just depends on what you carry I guess.
