I bought a 1995 2wd 4runner last july and noticed it had a vibration while driving at 50-60mph and gets worse when you let off the gas at times. I also noticed that it had a leaking axle seal so i assumed it was a bad wheel bearing. So i relmaced the bearing and seal and seals and still have the vibrarion. I have also replaced the u-joints, put in new shocks and replaced the bushings to polys and still have the vibration. My rear anti-lock light is on and am thinking its my rearend that is causing the vibration. I was looking for a cheaper solution and am about to pull the 3rd. Anyone have any ideas?

Vibes on letting off the gas sure sounds like driveline play. Might be worth checking the transmission output for play before you drop the third. Do the 2wd transmissions have a flange or a slip yoke?
You might check your , or replace your motor and trans mounts. I found our truck was world's improved after that fix. Most of the rubber components on these trucks have long since past their service life's long ago.
Tire balance is also an issue, which we had gone through. Which poly bushings were replaced in the rear suspension?

One aspect of urethane(good or bad), if you have a weak point on the truck, they will point it out. Did the vibration get worse after the bushing install? You might check the torque specs and the joints(for looseness). Sorry to hear your having such issues with it, you'll find it.

Interesting, replacing the rear control/lateral arm bushings really improved our 4runner. It was much smoother, less vibrations and the like. Have you done motor or trans mounts yet? I did those before rebuilding the truck's bushings with urethane.

Yeah the vibration got worse when I installed the poly bushings, I have been reading that some 4runners tires need to have a lug centric balancing. My only question is how bad a out of balance wheel can cause a vehicle to vibrate. its to the point that I cant see out of my rearview mirror when it gets going

You can lose a single weight and it can vibrate at highway speeds. I know this from experience :eyebrows:

Sounds like problem pretty much covered by other members and will add another possibility? Had same problem with 90 T4r and ended up placing the front end on stands and took the front wheels and checked for movement from side to side, and up and down. Passenger side idler arm was totally shot, ended up replacing it along with the rest of the front suspension components and now front suspension is very firm, drives like new.
You might try rotating the tires front to rear. We went through the tire balance issue as well. It happened when Costco installed a set of Michelins, improperly. Warning, this store(chain) does not have very good tire installation equipment(like Hunter or the like). This was one of the major reasons I completely went through the suspension on our truck.
Tire installers don't seem to like to purchase the hub tool that centers a 4runner truck rim/wheel properly. You might try the dealer to balance them or check a local tire retailer. There is a store near us that actually specializes in installing tires on 4runner's due to this issue.

The vibration made the truck almost useless, it was terrible. Less back massage, and more PITA. Having said that, the Michelin's have lasted about 50k and show little wear. If I had to do it over again, I would have opted for the models with stiffer side walls.
I found re-greasing and setting the torque on the front wheel bearings really tightened up the steering feel afterwards (just FYI).
