I have a vibration/chatter problem/concern and want to know if others have it or notice it?

When I backout of the garage in the morning I then have to make a sharp right hand turn. That is when I get the vibration/chatter, I also get it at other times normally on right hand turns when power is being applied (if I'm turning and not giving it any gas I don't notice this vibration/chatter) It is almost the same as you get from a limited slip differential on a tight turn. (It is more noticeable before the vehicle is warmed up)

Anyone else notice this? Is there a TSB for this condition? I don't even know if it is a problem, if everyone has it then I can live with it.

I also have 04 sr5 v8 4weel drive. It does the exact same thing. I ask toyota about it . They said all the v8 4wheel drives do it. I have 15.000 miles.

Thanks Mud thought it was OK but no one had ever mentioned this problem/vibration. Figured with all of the complaining about the vibrations from the driveline at different RPM levels and the thump concern that someone would of complained about this vibration. Glad to know it is normal.

The only the thing. I don't remember it doing it when i first got it Iam waiting for some snow to see if it still does it or maybe i'll take it out in the dirt try it on a surface with less traction.

I think another indication that it is normal, only you and I responding to this thread. If it wasn't normal there would be a bunch of posts complaining about this condition.

Mine has the same thing, it's like a little shudder when you take off with the wheel cranked. Just turned over 1400 miles today.

It feels like my other 4wd vehicles when you try to turn on dry pavement with 4wd engaged, only not quite as severe. I just assumed that it was something with the AWD system.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think the problem is that the 4Runner is so smooth normally that these little quirky things stand out a little more. (If you can call that a problem.)

I'm driving my Jeep today, and with all the rattles, shakes, and vibrations, I couldn't make out the car behind me in the rearview mirror. I spent the whole drive to work trying to figure out which noises and vibrations were there already, and which ones were new.

I drove a 1 ton 4x4 Dodge Cummins turbo diesel dually before the 4runner. Couldn't hear any rattles or feel any vibrations because of the diesel engines noise/vibrations. When Cummins came out with the common rail injection in 2003 for the Dodge trucks it really made it quiet and smooth. All of the guys on the Dodge CTD site started complaining about all of the drivetrain noises and vibrations thinking thay had problems. No problems, they could just hear/feel them now where they couldn't with the older diesels. : I love visiting the Lexus site and reading all of the complaints about the GX470 and its vibrations/thumps etc. They think they bought a luxury car not a truck.

Mine makes the same noise. My dealer said it was the power steering pump we are feeling resonating through the vehicle when the pressure is real high while cranking the wheel over.

toyo, I don't think its the power steering because it does not do it if you don't give it any gas when you turn. It only does it when the gas is applied and the 4runner is not warmed up. If it is warmed up it is almost unnoticable.

True, but you also have to consider the p/s fluid is also thicker when cold, which might be adding to the pump vibration. I am not saying this is the problem. We have to look at all things in full. One way to elimanate the p/s is remove the serpentine belt then try it.

Same issue (one of the reasons I'm checking out this board - nice place!). Very noticable while turning tightly, like out of the driveway. Chatter that I was willing to put down to the diffs loading up.
But I wondered if it was temp related, since it's gotten much colder in NJ. 4k miles on the truck w/ about 1k of that towing 4k lbs or so - purchased in August.

I think it's the diffs loading up, drive train loading, mine does it hot or cold, but notice more when cold. Not the steering since it only does it when I apply the gas, if headed down hill and no gas then it is not present. I think it is normal and comes with the AWD.

I had the Front and rear diff fluid changed and the drive shaft re-torqued as recommended at the 15K mile maintanance interval. I don't know if it was the sevicing of the diff's or the retorque that has eliminated this vibration but it is gone.
