Vibration help

Ok so I had lost a support that was tack welded on my catalytic converter and went to a shop to have some kind of bracket welded on to support it because of a vibration I am having in the exhaust when I'm stopped in drive foot on brake. Noise goes away when I'm park or neutral. Anyways figured it was the support I was missing but my muffler shop is saying it isn't that and that welding that bracket on won't solve my issue. Should I take it somewhere else ?

If am OEM exhaust hanger was present on your car, and has broken, and now all of a sudden you have a vibration, then yes, I would start by having that welded back on. However, I'd also like to know what caused the support to break in the first place. If it's just simple rust, then no worries, but if you have a bad motor mount, or something that is allowing excess movement of the motor, that's a bigger issue and warrants further investigation.

I had a vibration noise that was driving me mental for a while. TL;DR it was the vibration dampener bolted to the transfer case (yours is in the center of the picture you sent, bottom, in the background).

Easy to test. Crawl under, grab it and give it a shake to see if it makes some noise or is loose. Mine was and I shot some epoxy underneath it between the bottom of the bracket and that held until I got a replacement from a parts truck.

Yeah I'm sure it's exhaust vibration if I jam the handle of a screwdriver in between the catalytic converter and the frame with someone putting it in gear and holding the brake I can stop the vibration by putting upward pressure on the catalytic converter. The old one did in fact just rust off I have found it but I don't think there's enough metal on it to weld that one back on. That's why took it to a muffler shop to see if they could just take a piece of metal or something and make a bracket out of it

So you're trying to cure a noise coming from the exhaust correct? I'm kinda in agreement with the muffler shop. If you shake a muffler system, there should be no noise. Maybe not having that bracket is just allowing the system to move a little more but whatever is loose is loose. My money is the substrate in the catalytic converter has broken away from the casing internally, allowing it to move and vibrate against the shell of the converter. Have had a couple vehicles do this and produced the same exact result. Every time I would come to a stoplight it would make the noise. Put it in park, no noise.

Are y'all having a very inconsistent rhythmic vibration, sometimes not there and sometimes loud. But, while standing still in drive will stop and if you put it in neutral or start to drive, it goes away? If, so, what did you do to fix it?
