Vibration noise while in D when not moving

I have a 2003 V8 4Runner Limited with 168,000. For the past month there has been a vibration noise coming from the engine only when Im sitting still at a light or stop in D position. Sounds like its coming from right underneath the stearing wheel. If I put the truck in N or P the vibration doesnt occur.

Any possible answers. If I had a mechanic I could trust I would take it there but aince I dont I thought I would research the masses.

Probably nothing to worry about.

When it has happened to me, it's either been a loose or dirty (gravel) skid plate, or a loose heat shield. If you get underneath you can probably get an idea of what it is by banging around with your fist or knuckles.

Given those exact symptoms (only in D, not in N of P) if it doesn't bother you, you could just ignore it. If you decide to snug up the skid plate bolts, don't go overboard on them. They're a little bit fragile.

I had a rattling noise when I sat at a red light so I removed a heat shield, problem solved.

Ok guys appreciate the responses. Will get underneath with someone I trust to be in drive while on the brake and see if I can see where the noise is coming from.

Thanks
