Vibration on slow acceleration

Also a post I just made about tranny & torque converter seems to resemble what [MENTION=34583]Ducman[/MENTION] called rumble strip noise . Mine has been doing this for about 3wks & even in 4th gear it does it slightly but in drive very noisy , couple of members have replaced tc & or tried using older trans fluid and not the WS fluid . I first thought it was my skid plate had busted a weld but not .

Hi Folks,

This is exactly the same issue i seem to have been experiencing for two months now. I had even taken my vehicle for inspection at a local automotive store and they couldn't figure this out. This vibration is happening at slow acceleration speeds between 35 and 40 and then it goes away. This doesn't happen if i accelerate faster. I have experienced this on my winter tires, then my older Michelins and then also on my brand new Continentals All Seasons. The automotive place had inspected my U-Joints and tires/struts and they claim to have done a 129 point inspection and still nothing.

Any confirmed solutions here?

Vibration

My 05 V-6 is doing the same. Vibration from about 35-45 mph. Hood shakes. Coming from the front. Let off or give it gas, it goes away. Just came from a mechanic. He says try fuel additive. One mechanic told me r/h wheel bearing. I changed that but that didn't fix it. I'm thinking transmission or driveshaft although when it first started it was coming from the right front. Rotated/balanced tires. No help. If anyone gets a fix, please post.

I had a Tacoma 4x4 and all Toyota's seem to have strange vibrations on acceleration a lot, more so after being lifted.

I've started to have this issue off and on over the last month or so. Happens sometimes when i slowly start to accelerate from a complete stop but not all the time . I'm going to be exploring this more after the holidays and trying to find the culprit! This sounds like a completely separate issue than the rumble strip that posted in the link above. The problem is at least for me is it's going to be hard to have some one try to listen or feel it because it doesn't happen all the time so it's going to be hard to replicate. Oh well i just wanted to revive this thread as i recently started having this issue.

Could this maybe be a pinion bearing?
My other thought was something with the drive shaft or torque converter?

Just bought my first 4runner. I'm in the process of trying to figure out my shudder/vibe. Shudder happens while engine is under light load usually between 1500-2000rpm. I'm not sure if it is engine related or transmission/driveline related. I'm going to start picking it apart one by one. Hopefully one of these will fix it.
-Lubing driveshaft slip joint and u-joints
-Correct tire pressure
-MAF sensor/throttle body cleaning
-New air filter
-New plugs
-Transmission flush

I've heard of some people diagnosing a transmission shudder and it turned out to just be bad plugs. So don't rule anything out!

That's exactly what it is, the torque converter. I'd first add Shudder Fixx, available at most auto parts store. Start cheap then go from there.

Thanks for the info i'm going to look into this but i've been meaning to service my transmission and lube the slip yolks so we'll see how it is after that? There's really good thread on this over on the FJ forum so it seems to be a pretty common problem.

Yup, very common problem in these 4Runners and it's related to transmission/torque-converter.

Search "rumble strip" or "transmission shudder" for more information.

I've wondered if anyone has been successful in addressing this problem via a fluid flush.

Thing is, I know people have put a lot of miles on their transmissions since reporting this problem. So it's tough to say if the problem reveals anything in terms of the remaining life of your transmission/converter.

If your car is doing it, I'd recommend the transmission flush. If that doesn't help, forget it and enjoy the car. You'd be insane to start replacing transmissions/converters with such a minor issue.

Thanks for your reply. Why the drain over the flush though? Just curious. Just getting in to doing some of my own work and trying to learn the works. My 4runner only has 106K so I'm not sure why I'm having this problem.

They make that Shudder Fixx for a reason. Many manufacturers have this issue. When you flush you stir up all metal particles and they get trapped in ports, etc. My buddy had his flushed on his Tahoe just for preventative maintenance. I told him don't do it. Fine going in. Shuddered when it came out. Had to have the torque converter replaced.

My '07 which I purchased just a few weeks ago seems to have a very subtle shutter at slow speeds but only some days. At first I thought it was a tire balancing issue but now I'm not so sure. I've got around 120K miles on the 4Runner with no records of any transmission servicing. It seems that people have mixed opinions on the drain and fill versus flush. I'm tempted to try the drain and fill myself but I'm a little nervous having never touched a transmission before.

I hear the xmsn is suppose to be at a certain temperature when you fill it. But if I was doing it myself, sure what do you have to lose? Use this KISS method. If that doesn't work then have/ do a drain and fill. If that doesn't do it then I was going to flush as last resort.
Oddly, enough the dealership told me the xmsn was a quart low. I said WTF. Bought 05 4 runner new. Never worked on. Never leaked. So Toyota sold me a vehicle that was underserviced? Does it use fluid? Had 160,000 miles. Has 202,000 now.

So the drain and fill alone fixed yours without adding the Shudder Fixx? Or did you later add the Shudder Fixx? Impressive that you're at 202K miles now which is what I'm hoping to achieve as well.
