2004 SR5 V6 4WD getting a mean vibration in the steering wheel when braking from higher speeds (50 mph+). At first I thought it must be the front rotors, but then why does it feel totally smooth slowing down from lower speeds? Could it be something in the front end? Where would you guys look first? Totally stock and truck has 110k miles. Thanks!

Its always like that on all cars. The 4runner is no different. The rotors are warped slightly, so you can only feel it at high speeds and nothing at low speeds. Its pretty common actually.

needs a brake job. have the rotors resurfaced(or replaced if they aren't thick enough) and new pads. make sure a proper break in is done with the new pads, otherwise you will get the same issue again not long after.

I have the same issue, BUT it doesn't do it everytime, and only at speed and not once it gets below 40ish MPH, I agree that the rotors are most likely warped or can be warped, but it can also be from uneven brake pad material buildup/deposits on the rotor which I believe is my issue and also a small degree of the rotor/s being warped, I also have another symptom which can be from either of the above, as I'm slowing down almost to a stop you can feel the brakes fade in and out, or a small area where the brakes grab a bit more than the rest of the rotation of the rotor/s, I beleive this is from uneven brake pad material on the rotor but could easily be a warped rotor as well.
I will be sometime before the end of the year be doing a complete brake job, but I'm in no hurry as I have a fair amount of brake pad left on all 4 corners, if the shimmy get worst I will be doing this sooner.
