hello everyone:awais: lately my 4 runner is a wreck. its been so good untill now. im not sure on what the issue is, but here goes the symptoms; the 4runner runs ok below 50 mph, but if i drive in the highway and pass 50 mph it begins to vibrate the vibration increases as i accelerate, vibrations stop if i let go of the gas and go below 50. first i tought it was my tires, had them rotated and align just to get that out of the suspision and nothing. now im begining to think it might be my transmission, but than again it shifts gears with no slipeage but what i have noticed is that if the car is on park and i want to shift it to Drive, it will make this clank noise when it shifts to D. But whats really killing me is that Crazy Vibration. please guys help. thanks in advance

same problem... any luck with u-joints?

I've been having a similar problem with my '99 4runner 2wd, auto.

the vibration was really bad a first (seemed to pop up overnight). over a series of frustrating events with the dealer, had the drive shaft balanced and a bearing in the differential replaced. vibration greatly reduced, but still there... subtle. only at speeds 50mph+ and only when applying gas, just like yours.

the only thing I can think of that may have caused the bearing to go and a out of balance drive shaft was extended use of snow chains in icy conditions.

have you discovered anything with the u-joints???

my highway vibrations were almost completely solved when i replaced the rear transmission mount! Like night and day! Still a *slight* vibration, but it's time for a tire rotation/balance anyhoo. Worth a try. Jack up the rear of your rig and pull down on the driveshaft just behind the tranny and if it goes all the way down or appears sloppy or loose, replace that bad boy also it it just may solve your problem!
