Anyone else get the ironic Toyota ad before the video? 4Runner and Corolla getting totaled, better have a Toyota ad here!
Though, nobody was seriously injured so it does seem fitting...
The only thing better would be a mattress firm commercial...lol.
That's much of CA. I was on El Camino Real in Mountain View some years back. It had just started raining. I was stopped at a light behind a 3rd gen 4Runner. Light turns green. He was going to turn right and must have floored it from a dead stop with the wheel hard over. He did a 270 spin. Moron.
Here in New England you should see the drivers during the first snow.

You should see what Californians do when they encounter snow. Any light dusting and the ditches are full of California plates on I70.

Hopefully both drivers are ok. Been driving for quite some time and see this a lot and worse. I'll be honest a few of us may have been in these close calls. My wife one day came home to hitting a cotoyte road kill and totalled our car thankfully nobody hurt just the car. I too samshed into a tire, a sitting trash can, a flying table set barely missed and killed me. I feel bad for the driver in the small car. It'll hopefully make people more aware next time. I pass through that highway all the time. Sad to say after reading all of everyone's comments most of them are true. Some people just loose their focus especially at night and hate night driving. I know a few who hate driving at night but are forced to do so. On the other hand this accident didn't get avoided and so happens the news reporters had first view of it and caught it all on tape causing another distraction. Some third world countries don't have the luxury of having huge highways like here in the U.S. yet we still find ways to wreck our vehicles so bad. Reason why I leave the weekend car at home and drive a beater every day to work because of things like this.
I had a friend that hit a hot tub in the middle of the road once. Luckily no one was hurt and he actually found humor it it.
Also, living in the Phoenix area, I'm more worried about the crazy drunk people driving on the wrong side of the highways lately. I think there's been 4-5 reports of it in the last 6 months alone.

I'm not surprised by this at all. People don't look ahead AT ALL driving around on the streets. I'd say the average person is looking roughly 5-10 yards ahead of their car, which is about where the 4Runner driver was looking.
Think about where you're looking when you're driving on the street, you should be looking at least 50-100 yards ahead at all times. It'll probably feel uncomfortable at first, but it's amazing how easy it is to "drive" when you're looking where you're going.
New students at racetracks have the absolute hardest time with looking right in front of their car and the same corners just "surprising" them over and over.

Agreed, that was what I was taught when I started driving. I tried to teach my kids that too, one of them understood and has never had a crash. The other didn't get it and ended up with a suspended license due to two rear-end crashes.
That was the end of driving until completing a real driving program ay his own expense. No accidents in the 11 years since then.

Yep, nothing is quite like the experience of trying to teach someone to drive around a race track in a 600+ HP car that's looking about 10 ft in front of the hood. It's pretty much 2 hrs of hardcore pucker the whole weekend while they wonder why the 120 HP Miata just passed them by...
