Video recording device on windshield?

I've been thinking about adding a video recording device on the windshield to record while I'm driving. Driving through Dallas everyday, I see some crazy stuff on the roads and think it might be in my best interest in case I witness a wreck or if I'm involved in one. Without doing much research on the devices that are out there, I just wanted to see if any of you have researched this or have one that works well.

Yes I have on hanging right behind the rear mirror and a long power cable to the port in the armrest. Mine is two years old from Costco so probably not available any more.

Ha ha, yeah I was having a brain fart when posting this, I couldn't for the life of me remember 'dash cam' so I had to go into descriptive mode. I bought one last night on a lightning deal from amazon. Thanks guys for the responses.

Good Note!! I'm from the Battery Industry and yes.. heat destroys Battery Life.... Capacitor is the way to go...

I picked up a rexing dashcam a few months back and hung it on the windshield in front of the rear view mirror. Can even see it when sitting in the driver seat. They make a hardwire kit that I ran down cross the headliner and then down the a pillar and it comes on with the key in run and off at shut off. Nice to have knowing the crazy crap on the roads nowadays.
