My Horizon Blue Project Runner

Hello everyone,

This is my 1999 Horizon Blue T4R SR5, 5spd E-locker. I purchased it back in January w/258k miles. The previous owners were a older couple from Boulder, CO. When I picked it up there were some cracks in the body work etc. This how it looked when I purchased it:







How it looks now has not really changed just minor cosmetics. I had a broken piece of fender trim on the left rear that I replaced and one of the end-caps on the running board was broken:

I then bought some 2001-02 rear tail lights:


Then some idiots went through the neighborhood and shot cars with bb guns. I was one of the victims as the BB hit my driver side rear view mirror:


So I had to fix it:




I then replaced the missing ashtray:


Burned out HVAC light bulbs:


And got a new key w/fob:


I ordered fog lights which are currently on the way and bought a oem fog light switch:


I found out that I have aftermarket rear shocks and oem front shocks:

I then decided to convert all the exterior bulbs to LED:


And the interior:



I also made a video to show how the LED’s look. I’ll provide links to each item.

I would like to eventually get some shocks, I’m not a big off road person but I would like to go off the beaten path to do some camping. I was thinking of just a Bilstein upgrade. I’m upgrading very little at a time so I’ll keep this thread updated:

LEDs:

Rear turn signals: 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner Rear Turn Signal LEDs (pair)

Tail lights: 1996-2007 Toyota 4Runner Tail Light LEDs (pair)

Front turn signals: 1999-2002 Toyota 4Runner Front Turn Signal LEDs (pair)

All the above LED’s are XP80 LED’s 510 Lumens.

Interior Dome and Cargo Dome:
31mm SMF6 LED (Pair) - 31mm Festoon - Bulbs By Size - Lighting

Map Lights:
BA9S 57 1895 6K WHITE 6 LED HIGH POWER 360° 170LM | 1 PAIR

Key note if you buy the Diode Dynamics route:

You need either 01-02 tail lamps or the Eagle Eyes non LED tail lamps that look like 01-02 all which require a new wire harness due to the reverse light being a 921. The rear turn signals won’t work with a SR5, Limited or Base pre ’01-‘02 rear tail housing due to the amber plastic in the housings. The Tail light LED will work the red one.

The front turn signal housing needs to be modified to fit the front turn signal LEDs. I baked my housing for 35 minutes at 200 degrees. I split the plastic lens from the housing and removed the amber insert held by a Phillips screw.

No modification was needed for the reverse or front parking lights to work.

Alright a quick little update:

So thanks to Nissanh for sending me out the driver side fog light I needed. I finally got my fog lights installed and working nicely. I installed the PIAA Plasma Yellow H3:

Quick update:

This past weekend I picked up a set of 5 spoke blooming flower wheels in anticipation to complete the Tundra brake upgrade.



I also got around to installing my FMU unit that I received from New Zealand. My 4runner doesn't have a sunroof. I bought a non sunroof version. It was a direct swap, only needed to do wiring. The mounting bracket was the same. I also added LED lights in my FMU:
