VIN info

If I post the VIN of a truck I may be getting on here what type info can I find out about it such as what option it came with, etc.....

No. It'll tell you what model it is.. but that's just as simple as looking at the actual truck and read it off the doors.

Each model has its own standard options, any items installed after delivery would not be reflected in the VIN nor the model.

Ok thanks, so there is no where I can post it that will tell options like type of sunroof, tow package or anything like that. Is there anyone on here that could run it a dealership to get service history?

The service history aren't linked from dealership to dealership. The only place that would know is at the place where the vehicle is being sold.

By looking at the vehicle, you would find out what trim level it is. (SR5, Sport Edition, Limited), and from there we could tell you for the most part what's on the vehicle.

Where is the vehicle now?

why would you need the vin for that? just look at the vehicle itself.

the vin is useful for plugging into something like carfax or autocheck.

It will not tell you that. Just like if the dealership decided to take off a factory spoiler.. the VIN number will not tell you that.

The VIN doesn't store information, it just identifies the vehicle with a number....kind of like a bar code/serial number. You cannot add information onto the vin.

Actually, I think this is possible. I know at some collision shops and dealers, they type your VIN number into the computer and it pulls up all of the standard and optional equipment on that vehcile. I wish I knew the name of this software, but it was really cool. You can't actually tell what is on the vehcile from the VIN number itself though. For example, you can only tell if the 4Runner is an SR5 or Limited from looking at the VIN number.

I emailed Toyota the VIN on the used runner I just bought and they emailed me back the next day with the factory installed options.

If you look at the vin and the number tells you its a limited.. it has a sunroof. They're just putting all the info in one area with this program.

when i bought my truck, the sales person went to a toyota web site only available to dealership and, for example, bodyshop.
by entering VIN, all information including installed options, are displayed.
i tried the website at home, it simply didn't work.

yes, there has been tell of a national database where repair and install info is kept sorted by vin.

not sure if its 100% true or used by all dealers.

I still cant believe that you guys keep track of this..LOL. I am just glad to see forum activity and folks searchng to see if the question was asked before.
